Staff Predictions: Tulsa vs. Texas

Texas is looking for its first win of the season against a Tulsa team that barely held out over Central Arkansas last weekend. Our staff predicts how Texas responds to another opening loss to start the season.

Daniel Seahorn (0-1)

This should be a repeat of the San Jose State game last year. Get up early, get the starters out so they are healthy, and get the reserves some PT so you can see your depth in live game situations. I know this game won’t do much perception wise for many, but even after last week I expect Texas to hang some crooked numbers on the Golden Hurricane and move on to preparations for USC.

Prediction: Texas 45, Tulsa 10

Jameson McCausland (0-1)

While Texas came out on the losing end a week ago, there were several positives to take away. An improved offensive line should pay dividends as the season continues. After watching Tulsa, I don’t think the Golden Hurricanes have what it takes defensively to stop Texas. There’s no reason Texas shouldn’t be hovering around the 40-point mark in this game.

I think Keaontay Ingram gets over the 100-yard mark with a pair of scores and the Texas defense slows down a Tulsa offense that is very run-heavy.

Prediction: Texas 42, Tulsa 17

Aaron Carrara (0-1)

Texas followed up last season’s loss to Maryland by throttling San Jose State 56-0 and racking up 623 yards of total offense. Texas fans will be looking for a similar showing on Saturday against Tulsa. There are still many questions to be answered, particularly offensively, and the Longhorns have a chance to show progress in the team’s home  opener. Todd Orlando’s defense will be put to test against a Golden Hurricane team that racked up 274 yards on the ground in their win against Central Arkansas last weekend. Even with the poor display in Landover, I expect Texas to to beat Tulsa handily and have a big offensive week at home as USC looms.

Prediction: Texas 45, Tulsa 17

Harrison Wier (0-1)

Here we are — a week after Texas disappointed fans yet again after an offseason of nothing but hype. Fortunately for Texas, this game should not be much of a test. The Golden Hurricanes have several weapons, but have no reason to hang around in this game. The Texas defense should begin to click. If the offense is unable to move the ball on Saturday, then we will have some serious cause for concern. Although I agree with my colleagues that Texas will win, I do not believe they will cover the 22-point spread. For Tom Herman’s sake, I hope he says “No Mas” to being bullied by teams below Texas’ level.

Prediction: Texas 31, Tulsa 14
