Coming off what could very well be a season-changing victory in Dallas, the Texas Longhorns continue their SEC road stretch and head to Lexington this week to face the Kentucky Wildcats. After a dominant 23-6 victory over No. 6 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, Texas looks to build consistency with a defense that is among the nation’s best and a steadily improving Arch Manning under center. Manning’s poise and efficiency have held the Longhorns offense together, and running back Quintrevion Wisner and receiver Ryan Niblett helped create explosive playmaking on the ground and through special teams.
Kentucky, on the other side, recovering from a bye week, is seeking its first SEC win this year. The Wildcats will depend on freshman quarterback Cutter Boley’s arm and running back Seth McGowan’s red-zone efficiency to keep pace against a Texas team that is surging with more and more confidence. Key storylines include how the Kentucky offensive line copes with Texas’ relentless pass rush, whether Manning can continue his efficient play on the road, and whether the Wildcats’ opportunistic defense can disrupt the rhythm of a surging Longhorn squad.
The game kicks off at 6:00 pm CST under the lights at Kroger Field and will be televised on ESPN.

This will be an interesting test for Texas coming off an emotional game against Oklahoma. Kentucky had a bye last week to lick its wounds after back-to-back losses to South Carolina and Georgia.
This isn’t one of Mark Stoops’ more talented teams, but they have a physical running game and play sound defense, so they have the ability to drag teams into a 4th quarter game. I expect an inspired effort from the Wildcats, but I trust this Texas defense to show up as Arch Manning continues to take steps forward.
Score Prediction: Texas 28, Kentucky 14

After doubting Texas last week, I think we saw this team get back on-track. Arch Manning managed last week’s game against rival Oklahoma well, and made the throws he needed at all the right times. Combine that with a big day on the ground and the Longhorns had a recipe for success. I see a similar game plan for Saturday – running the ball, gobbling clock and relying on Manning’s legs and short passes. Kentucky is 0-3 in SEC play and dead last in the conference standings, but they still very much have the capability to upset the Longhorns at home. The Wildcat’s defense ranks 106th nationally out of 132 teams, and I expect Texas to move the ball without much trouble. Conversely, the Longhorn defense continues to be stingy, giving up just 259 yards per game and ranks 11th in the country in total defense.
A night, conference game on the road is a challenge for any team, particularly in the SEC, but Texas wins this one in Lexington to improve to 5-2 overall.
Score Prediction: Texas 31, Kentucky 13

Could the Longhorns be hitting their stride? Last week, Texas, in the win over OU, finally got the running game on track as Tre Wisner rushed for 94 yards, helping the offense establish a physical tone up front.
That formula, run the ball, control the clock, and protect the football will be key again this week against Kentucky.
If the Longhorns can maintain balance offensively and the defense continues to create turnovers, they’ll have a strong chance to keep their momentum rolling on the road.
Score Prediction: Texas 24, Kentucky 10

After a big win over Oklahoma, the Longhorns roll into Kentucky on a runner’s high.
While Kentucky has not been a good team so far this year, let’s not forget the high-and-low nature of this Texas team. If Arch Manning & the Longhorns can score 30+ points against this struggling Wildcat defense, things will officially be looking up.
More so, if the team can replicate their second half performance from last weekend, there should be no troubles in Lexington.
Score Prediction: Texas 27, Kentucky 10

Boy, was I glad to be wrong. This is what we’ve been waiting for – a complete game in all three phases? Check. Third-down conversions? Check. Pressure and sacks on the QB? Yep, check again.
If this team – the one that came out of the locker room down 6-3 and marched 75 yards for a touchdown – shows up in Lexington, it’s over before kickoff. While I don’t expect a masterclass, I do expect Texas to show up and remind everyone who this team is. That was a culture win, and I expect Texas to build on it this Saturday night.
Look for some Sark creativity to jumpstart the passing game early and tough, downhill running to carry the Horns to a sizable win on the road.
Score Prediction: Texas 27, Kentucky 10

Following a massive win against OU, Texas will continue building confident against Kentucky. Look for the Longhorns to force multiple Kentucky turnovers. After a tight first half, Arch and the Texas offense will put away Kentucky in the 3rd quarter.
Score Prediction: Texas 28, Kentucky 10
