The Texas Longhorns return to practice today for the first time since their 22-19 loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship game last Saturday. As they do, Steve Sarkisian and staff will host Purdue tight end Max Klare today to soak it in and tour the 40 Acres, as first reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. It’s portal season, and the Longhorns are looking to capitalize on as many top-grabs as they can to bolster a roster that needs depth.
The 6-4, 240 lb. native of Cincinnati, Ohio was a three star prospect out of St. Xavier High School in the Class of 2022. He played his first snaps at Purdue last year as a freshman, but suffered an injury against Illinois and missed the Boilermakers’ last seven games.
This season Klare has been healthy and extremely productive. He has hauled in 51 receptions for 685 yards, most which came from former Texas quarterback Hudson Card, and leads the Purdue team in receiving yards. He announced his decision to enter the portal on December 6th.
The Longhorns are in need of a do-it-all tight end next season with the impending losses of seniors Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis and Clare could fill that role. Helm has caught 49 passes for 611 yards this year, trailing only the team-leading Matthew Golden in receiving yards for Texas (47-738 yds).
