Fresh off their No. 1 national ranking, the Texas Longhorns (30-5) notched a win against the UTRGV Vaqueros on Tuesday night at Disch-Falk Field to continue their best start since the 2004 season.

Sophmore Kade Bing started on the mound, working five innings for the Longhorns, giving up five hits and striking out four. Texas used an array of relievers in relief of Bing, which included Andre Duplantier III, Ethan Walker and Jason Flores. As a whole, the pitching staff struck out 10 batters and issued no walks on the night.

Texas began the scoring out of the gate, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Jalin Flores’ two RBI double and Casey Borba’s RBI double. Galvan’s RBI walk in the second inning was followed by Will Gasparino’s two RBI single to stretch the Longhorns’ lead to 6-0. Casey Borba added the seventh run of the evening on an RBI walk.

The third inning saw Texas put up two more runs. Galvan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, driving in another run, and Will Gasparino’s RBI single to left center field scored Easton Winfield to make the score 9-0 in favor of the Longhorns.

Galvan continued his hot streak on the night, driving in another run in the fifth thanks to his second double of the night. Gasparino’s sacrifice pop-fly RBI scored Oliver Service to make the score 11-0.
