Forty-seven. 47 days until kickoff versus New Mexico State.
As expected, UT backup quarterback Connor Brewer transferred last week. It was only a matter of time for the 4-star Arizona high school prospect to bolt for more playing time. Brewer was pushed further down the line with the emergence of freshman Tyrone Swoopes and the incoming Jerrod Heard in 2014.
Mack Brown gave him his outright release, which is something most coaches will not do. Just ask Mike Gundy. Brewer has already been in contact with Alabama, Notre Dame, and Arizona among other schools. Although Brewer never played a snap in Austin, don’t be surprised to see him throw for 3K yards in a couple of years in a more pass-happy offense.
Longview running back, J’Mychal Hasty will be attending the Texas Stampede on July 27th in Austin. The 2015 blazer, who ran a 4.39 electronic timed 40-yard dash at the ETSN Combine in May, boasts offers from Texas Tech and Baylor and is known to be a heavy A&M lean.
The Longhorns had a ton of commits participating in the 2013 7-on-7 State tournament in Leander this weekend.
Some of the notable standouts include: Lorenzo Joe, Abilene Cooper; and Dorian Leonard, Longview. Both are wide receiver pledges that thrived in the spread offense style event. Joe, played QB, and looked the part, but will lineup at wide-out in the fall of 2014. Leonard was a mismatch nightmare, considering he’s a legit 6-foot-4, 200 pounds, and was considered unguardable. Lufkin’s KeKe Coutee, 2015 UT verbal, shined as well, as the Panthers offense looked unstoppable at times.
Former UT golfer and 2012 National Champion, Jordan Spieth can say he did something Tiger and Phil never did.
He won the John Deere Classic this weekend in Illinois at the spry age of 19. It’s the first PGA tour victory for the Texas-ex and he’s the youngest player to win an event since 1931. He also qualified for next week’s British Open.
I owe that whole week to my family, friends, @CMcCormickGolf @AMPDgolffitness . It’s a team win and I’m lucky for everything y’all have done

In baseball news, senior outfielder, Mark Payton will forgo the riches of the MLB and return for his final season at The Disch. In what has become a ritual in Austin of kids leaving for the pros, the 2013 June amateur draft was very kind to the Longhorns. Optimism on the diamond prevails for the first time in years.
Quote of the Week:Â “The shot on 18 was the luckiest shot I ever hit in my life. The fact that it bounced right and hit the pin and dropped down to the cup, it’s just extremely fortunate.” –Â Jordan Spieth on his final round bunker shot
Tweet of the week:
It’s almost like giving the Heisman to some idiot freshman wasn’t a good idea.
