James Brockermeyer already has history with the Texas Longhorns. His father Blake played for the team in the 1990’s and was an All-American tackle, his older brother Luke is a tight end at Texas, and now him and his brother Tommy are both being recruited by the team they grew up rooting for. Brockermeyer spoke with HornSports about his recent offer, Herb Hand, and the energy on the 40 Acres.
James Brockermeyer is a fast rising star at center from All Saints Episcopal in Fort Worth, Texas. His recruitment heated up in March, as he landed offers from Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Virginia, and an invitation to the Under Armour All-American Game.
On Saturday during the Longhorns’ spring game, Brockermeyer landed an offer from his family’s alma mater.
The 6-foot-3, 243 pounder competed at The Opening regional in Dallas, where he put up a 5.16 second 40-yard dash, 4.81 second shuttle, and a 27.40 inch vertical.
Brockermeyer is currently unranked, but with an offer list that is likely to keep growing, he will not be without stars for long.
His Crystal Ball Prediction is at 100 percent for Texas, along with his brother Tommy who is a five-star offensive tackle in the class of 2021.
The Longhorns are in his blood and Brockermeyer says the offer is a meaningful one.
“It was pretty special to get the offer because it’s not every day you get the opportunity to get to play with two of your brothers at the same college.”
Texas’ spring game drew a pretty impressive crowd on Saturday, which is not surprising coming off the Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, Brockermeyer said the environment in DKR was unique and stood out to him.
“There is a ton of buzz around campus about how good the team should be this year, so everyone’s really excited around campus. The team is also very cohesive and you can tell that everyone gets along really well and everyone loves each other.”
Brockermeyer touched on his relationship with Herb Hand, and the excitement between him and his possible future offensive line coach.
“We have a good relationship and we’ve met on numerous occasions. I can’t wait to continue my relationship with him!”
Though some might already have Texas locked in for Brockermeyer, he will be taking his time with his commitment decision.
“I haven’t made a top schools list yet, just because I still have a really long time to make that decision, but Texas will obviously be up there.”
The Longhorns do not currently have any commits for the class of 2021, but do have a center committed for the class of 2020 in four-star Jake Majors.
