Texas added a much-needed body to the defensive line on Sunday, when North Carolina’s Travis Shaw announced his commitment to head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns.
Shaw, 6’6, 340 lbs., elected to enter the portal on December 10th after playing three full seasons in Chapel Hill under head coach Mack Brown. He visited Austin this past weekend and wasted no time in deciding to make Austin home for his final year of eligibility.
The Greensboro, North Carolina native was a five-star prospect out of Grimsley High School and played in 13 games and registered 18 tackles as a true freshman at UNC. His sophmore season saw him play in 12 games and total 11 tackles. His production increased this past season, with Shaw totaling 26 tackles with four of them for a loss.
Shaw is a three-star prospect in the portal but is a big-bodied capable player who adds experience and depth at the tackle position.
He joins former Purdue defensive tackle Cole Brevard, who committed to Texas on December 14th, as defensive tackle pickups from the transfer portal.
