Despite the cold and rainy conditions, prospective high school football players made the most of their opportunity at the Nike Football Training Camp in Houston. NFTC camps are an interesting combination of football players with bright futures in the sport, along with players that will, unfortunately, end their careers after high school. The amount of speed and strength that sets Division I athletes apart from good high school players is narrow but noticeable – especially at events like Nike’s camp.
Only 5.8% of all high school football players end up on scholarship at an NCAA Division I program. Each of the 123 Division I programs can only have eighty five players on scholarship, so difficult choices must be made by college coaches. That’s what makes camps like the NFTC so valuable to coaches…they provide an opportunity to compare and evaluate talent.

Texas Noteworthy
Texas commit Jalen Campbell looked above average despite continuing to wear a left knee brace. After tearing his ACL and meniscus nearly a year ago, the Flour Bluff (Corpus Christi) CB continues to play it safe with the left knee. He didn’t appear to lose a step in workouts.
Derrick Dillon, 2015 Athlete from Pine High School in Franklinton, Louisiana informed us that he visited Texas the previous day (Saturday, April 5th). Dillon doesn’t possess a Texas offer but holds scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas A&M among other schools. Dillon had a great camp and showed off his athleticism and speed as he worked out as a wide receiver in drills and in 1-on-1’s. He’s explosive off the line and has a high vertical. At the end of the day it is hard to imagine Texas NOT offering the versatile Dillon.
Texas target and dual-threat Fort Bend Marshall QB (2015) J.W. Ketchum III threw the ball well and looked comfortable and confident. It was apparent that Ketchum’s arm strength is not lacking. Couple this with his speed and it is easy to see why the 4-star recruit is one of the most highly coveted athletes in the state.
You want BIG and smart on the line at Texas? Take a look at Galena Park North Shore’s Tyler Moore. 3.8 GPA, 6-5 and 330 lbs. Tyler told us Texas O-line Coach Joe Wickline has had interest in him since his days at Oklahoma State. The communication carried over to the UT side of things when Wickline assumed his new role at Texas. Moore is well-spoken and currently holds an offer from Louisiana Tech.
