Game Day: #21 Texas Longhorns vs. #6 Oklahoma Sooners
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Texas Longhorns (4-1, 2-0) and Oklahoma Sooners (5-0, 2-0) meet for the 117th time on Saturday, with both teams having their eyes set on a Big 12 Championship and more.  Texas is hoping to avoid a fourth-straight loss to Lincoln Riley’s program, and head coach Steve Sarkisian looks to become the first head coach at Texas to win five of his first six games since Fred Akers went 6-0 in 1977.

The stakes are always high at Fair Park when these two teams play one another, but Saturday’s game is a barometer for understanding where each of these programs truly is after facing early season struggles. To make the stakes even higher, ESPN’s College Game Day will be setting up shop in Dallas for the big game.

Texas beat a ranked opponent to start the season, but was demolished by Arkansas in Week 2.  Since then Casey Thompson has taken the reins as the starting quarterback and never looked back.  Thompson has led the Longhorns back into the Top-25 and three straight wins, including last weekend’s 32-27 road win over TCU.

The Sooners maintain a perfect record after winning in Manhattan last week, but have won all of their games except one (Western Carolina, Week 2) by a touchdown or less.
