When was the last year we had a recruiting class that was this poor?

Gotta reel them in in 2015. We will never realize how good our on the field coaching can be without a few top 10 classes strung back to back.

Nothing will ever compare to the horror that developed out of the 08 and 09 classes, but hey...they looked AWESOME with all those stars....

I went and looked at all our recruiting classes and since 2001 we've never finished worse then the 17th best class in the country (and that was by far our worst class). Hate to say this, because I absolutely love Mack as a person. But Mack wasn't a very good coach. The amount of talent we have had and still have running through our program is unreal. I'll take a slight dip in recruiting, as long as we keep top 15 classes, if we see an improvement in coaching.

Don't jump the gun and be pessimistic. We are in a transition period. Charlie will be able to change things, and you need to give him an opportunity, and even the kids we're signing, a change to perform.

The year after the national championship was pretty subpar...considering we just won a national championship.

recruiting ratings are based on gawdy high school stats and hype by the services..look at all the TOP recruiting classes that MB had that didnt amount to even a conference champion..I am willing to give Charlie Strong a chance to develop these 3 star recruits into players with an attitude out to prove they were better than their HS ranking...Think about this..besides VINCE and Colt and Ricky, what other recruit has exceeded all the hype behind his HS ranking. Now how many never quite reached all the hype around theirs...

the point being, quit living and dying on arbitrary rankings based on potential, it will only set you up for heartbreak

The best time to realize how good or bad your recruiting class is - 2-3 years down the road.

Like someone else said, we've had classes with lots of 4s and 5s that never amounted to much.

Strong takes what he can get with this class - then takes whats in the cupboard already and has a surprisingly good season next year. No reason then for Texas not to have a helluva class with the momentum that would create. If Texas stinks it up, then we'll really get to see what kind of recruiters this staff has.

Keeping Chambers and bringing Watson were question marks and remain so.

2 years and into the 3rd of Manny Diaz impacted defensive perception to the point in a deep DB class Texas went 0'fer. DT recruiting in the tank for 2 years. Got zero in 2013.

Keep believing recruiting rankings don't matter and that Dodds was a genius by diluting the Big 12.

Nonsense. Other than that, great post.

Stars mean something, I even believe if you got Coach Strong alone and asked him, he would say they do. The stars just aren't the end all be all, but these guys are evaluated for 2 years in most cases so the stars have relevance. In regards to the class, I don't think that it is an all star class by any means, but there some guys that are potentially stars. I think the issue with these boards are that people had some kind of misinformed ideas. Players were going to be swayed away bc of the relationships that have been built vs the ones that need to be built. A lot of these guys don't fall in love w the school as much as they do the coaches.

The proof is in the pudding. CS is taking his lumps right now and for whatever reason his message is not resonating with recruits.

He has yet to coach his first game and I'd expect that if we come out of the gates next season like our hair is on fire things will get better.

If we struggle what were going through now will be the norm.

I've said multiple times the stars in this class are Heard, Roberson, Foreman and Catalon (at least on OB maybe not on this forum). We keep those 4 players I'll be more then happy with this class. Getting a legit QB, running back, receiver and defensive lineman is hard to beat.

Just a shot in the dark here - but I'd guess his message isn't resonating because for most of these guys the first time they met him or his staff was 7 days ago.

It has nothing to do with his message not resonating with recruits. Strong has only had a couple weeks to build a relationship with some of these kids, where as other coaches have had a couple years. That's why recruiting is always difficult when you make a coaching change.

You guys might be right. I guess Im thinking his message wasnt working because were seeing people take trips right after meeting the new staff.

What I was getting at is this is just a blip on the radar as long as we win next season and we just need to relax.

Sometimes we get lost in the star power. We see collage football teams every Saturday winning with a kid who was 2 and 3 stars. How many times do we get to hear the announcers tell us that this kid came out of nowhere he was a 3 star talent to be NFL material. How many times have we ask ourselves why can't that happen to Texas. The answer is we are to busy going for those 4 and 5 star kids who topped out in high school. My friends y'all have a great week.

The panic around here is remarkable.......but I guess if you're only focused on star ratings, you have reason for concern.
