Worst recruiting class since .........

The proof is in the pudding. CS is taking his lumps right now and for whatever reason his message is not resonating with recruits.
The Strong Rules was a mistake. Kids may not want to live on campus. What worked in the 60s doesn't necessarily work now.

I understand the frustration with this years recruiting class (and last years) but I'm kind of excited to see what Strong and company can do with them. In the CS era at Louisville, how many times did that team finish in the top 25 in recruiting? I think only once in either 2010 or 2011. I know Louisville played in the Big East where the competition is a tad lower, but he had those 3 star recruits playing at a high level.

Being a parent of a high school senior being recruited for track, we took a step back when her first choice changed coaches at the beginning of the year. She had a relationship with that coaching staff and felt extremely comfortable with them. She has now moved on to another D1 school because of it. She still liked the school, but she just didn't click with the new coach and couldn't see herself there for 4 years. It happens and I'm sure that's what is happening with some of these recruits. I believe everything will be alright in a couple of years it just sucks that we have to watch ATM get some of the glory right now. More power to them, but it will come back around and it will come around quicker than we think. Have faith.

The Strong Rules are two weeks old. Because of one abbreviated recruiting period you're ready to call them a mistake.

Nope, not reactionary, not at all.

God forbid the "Strong rules" deter an entitled 4 or 5 * and we wind up with an ass busting 3 * who gives it his all on every play.

The last truly great Texas recruiting class was probably the final one put together by Tim Brewster. Hopefully he comes back, if so no one will care about this class.

Better to not sign a 4 star looking for a country club. Much rather keep those scholarships around for next year than give it to a one and done transfer.

Agreed, because no other school in the country has team rules it enforces.

I just do not get the reaction that is coming out from some of you guys. I see the recruiting different and I think Coach Strong will do a great job. Some of the commits just waited for an excuse to flip due to what went on all year with the old group and Mack SPEAK.

Mack Brown spent over a decade reeling in top five or ten recruiting classes. What does he have to show for it? One national championship, which came when he quit trying to coach Vince and just let him be Vince. Oh, and what?...two Big XII championships? Yeah, I'm impressed...NOT! You need the players to win, it's true, but you also need to DEVELOP the players you get. That's something that Bob Stoops' staff has usually been very good at, and something Mack seems to not have cared very much about. I seem to recall that one of our very best recruiting classes, the Colt McCoy class, was one of Mack's lower-rated classes, star-wise. I think a lot of us as fans get all caught up in the four and five star rating system...I SERIOUSLY hope Coach Strong is good for his word that he pays a lot more attention to how good a player potentially is rather than how many stars he has by his name. That system seems to have worked very well for Coach Snyder at K-State, who many would argue is the best coach in college football, year in and year out.

Guys, only saying that recruiting matters, ALOT. In college football, recruiting is the most important ingredient. Teams contending for national titles are the teams that were in the top 6-8 recruiting classes the prior 2-3 yrs. Not just sometimes, 99% of the time. The analogy in car racing is which car is the fastest. Starting the race with one of the fastest cars is a shitload easier than driving the station wagon. Hence, Texas Longhorns 2005 vs early 1990's. The fastest car can still crash and doesn't always win. Bama has had the fastest car and best driver for 5 years.

We are the Texas. Let's see how CFS recruits next year. But for all those that say recruiting doesn't matter, you're crazy. It reminds me of all the times I read the same line of denial on the aggy sites when we were stomping their asses in recruiting and on the field in the early 2000's. Those recruiting classes were sick.

Finish Strong.

Go look at our Rivals rankings for 2010, 2011, 2012, then re-read your post.

I guess Texas is the 1%...

Show me a national championship team that has not recruited top classes in the previous few yrs. There aren't any. Auburn is the team that most fits, but they even had very good classes prior to that, not to mention the best jc qb that money could buy.

Recruiting the best classes doesn't guarantee success, but it gives you a shot. Under normal circumstances, with a hungry, energetic staff; we should always out recruit the big 12 and aggy. The prior staff was complacent and lazy in that regard in the final years. We are now paying the price.

i think the comments may be valid discussion points, but the title of the thread sucks.

it is very insulting to the kids and parents who have stayed commited. like it or not, recruits read the boards. if the intent is to flame the kids, its poorly directed, but i doubt that was the intent. JMO

recruiting ratings are based on gawdy high school stats and hype by the services..look at all the TOP recruiting classes that MB had that didnt amount to even a conference champion..I am willing to give Charlie Strong a chance to develop these 3 star recruits into players with an attitude out to prove they were better than their HS ranking...Think about this..besides VINCE and Colt and Ricky, what other recruit has exceeded all the hype behind his HS ranking. Now how many never quite reached all the hype around theirs...
the point being, quit living and dying on arbitrary rankings based on potential, it will only set you up for heartbreak
thank you for bringing sanity to this board.

Here is IT's final 2014 in-state rankings (free)

The top UT guys

7. Jerrod Heard: The Texas commit is a dual threat quarterback in the truest sense, though at this point his legs are a bit more advanced than his arm. He has the ability to become a great quarterback; good field awareness, solid accuracy and arm strength, while also possessing the leadership intangibles Texas has missed since Colt McCoy.

9. Armanti Foreman: Foreman possesses the hands and toughness you want in a slot receiver with the homerun speed of an outside player. He's a guy Texas will be able to move all over the field in an attempt to create space for. He'll likely get a look as a punt returner. Foreman can score from any place on the field

11. Derick Roberson: Roberson has the length and first step you look for in an edge rusher, but lacks the physical strength. Once that comes, he projects to a multi-year starter at defensive end for Texas. He's an excellent prospect and a severe need.

12. Edwin Freeman: 10 years ago, Freeman would be considered a tweener. Now, his versatility between safety/linebacker makes him an asset in space. He has the size to fight through blocks and the speed to close. Freeman is also one of the most tenacious players in the state, and is committed to Texas

18. Donald "Duke" Catalon: Catalon is a jack of all trades, master of none. He's not a power back, but he can run inside. He's not a speed back, but he can get the edge. He's a tough hard-nosed player who adds versatility with his hands. His best trait, he hits the hole hard. He'll play at Texas

22. Lorenzo Joe: Joe combines good size at nearly 6-3, 200 pounds, yard after the catch ability and silky smooth movements. After playing quarterback in high school for the last two years, he'll need to dedicate himself to route running but has the quickness and coordination required to master the skill. Austin bound.

Speaking of Roberson^

So winning the February championship matters? Last 5 yrs rankings, 24 2, 3, 3, 5 and they got you some outstanding records right? We got beat by schools last year that only had a couple of top 10 finishes in recruiting combined. I do not care how good the ranking is it will fail if the UT coaches fail to produce bigger, stronger, faster, and fundamentally sound players.

Our 2005 recruiting class ranked 20th in the country, yet it included Jamaal Charles, Henry Melton, Roy Miller, Jermichael Finley, Quan Cosby, and a low 3 star named Colt McCoy.
