Why so much hate for Mora?

Just curious. I get he doesnt have the Saban splash but by all accounts he's a solid coach in all areas, pro experience, has done well in a very short about of time trying to build a UCLA program back up. Has the rep of being a hard ass at times. Would change culture at Texas for sure, and prob run things more as a pro program like Bama

I obviously would take Fisher or Saban first, but I see so much trashing of Mora and Im just not sure I agree. People say he couldnt handle recruiting against OU and Aggy...based on what? how is that known?

Just asking some questions. Mora Jr with a Stud DC, and OC - top notch recruiting coordinator, etc. I guess Im not seeing why this would be so horrible

I think it's because people don't know him. He would be a great hire. I'm a Saban guy, still am, but mora would be a great fit here.

When it's the bottom of the ninth and you're down four runs, you really need a home run. A single works, but it requires a lot more work and luck to make it happen. Mora is a single to most, me included. It can lead to great things possibly, assuming everything else falls into place.

Whats funny is most opinion by national guys outside the UT fanbase think Mora would be a great hire for Texas. I've heard several known analysts bring up his name as someone UT should strongly consider

Im not saying he's Nick Saban, but I think people are massively too caught up in a name and acting like Mora couldnt win big here..yet offer little actual reasons about his coaching ability, kind of staff the resources at Texas would put around him etc. I dont have all the answers but he gets just trashed...moreso at OB I guess and it makes little sense to me

I think he'd do fine. I just think that if it's Mora, I would hope that we've reached out to Dantonio, Anderson, and Gundy and been told no.

It is simple. His name does not start with S and end with N. People are focused on the splash. I don't know enough about him to like him or not at this point. However like Dizz, all the analyst and reporters see him as a big hire.

I really like the thought of having him, yes of course you have to go Saben and Fisher first, but honestly for all the special pressures on Saben and the issues at Florida St, both of those jobs are great. I think as a whole sometimes we (longhorn nation) forget that their are other coaching jobs on par (Bama,USC, ND, Mich, Ohio St.) debate it if you like, it's my opinion. Saben continues to have a monster at Bama, he has yet ANOTHER super class coming in. Fisher has a team that will play for a title (and prob win). Oh yeah and the Heisman trophy winner, I know, I know "ask Sumlin how that worked out". Aggys team is NO WHERE near the FSU team, FSU will have talent on both SD. Anyway..I got off topic..

Mora has NFL experience (though not overly successful), he has a background in defense, he is running an offense that resembles the one that Texas/Major initially intended to run. I think he would be a great fit....oh and he has done a pretty damn good job bringing talent and speed to that UCLA team.

I've warmed up on the idea of Mora at Texas lately but that's only since he signed an extension at UCLA rather than bolting for Washington. Prior to that, I was convinced that he would leave any job for the Washington job. I was convinced of that because of some less than professional comments he made while coaching the Falcons. Clearly I was wrong.

no idea where its coming from, but I've seen some "rumor" of Lane Kiffin for OC with Mora if he came here. could be complete BS, but I think Mora would make big hires

hate is a strong word. the way mack was pushed out only to have mora brought in wouldnt sit well with me. and please note i wanted browns ass fired. hiring mora tells me we didnt have a plan, we werent prepared, and we did not use all of our resources. its meh. it doesnt immediately move the needle for our program. it does not put us in the national spotlight. lastly, it doesnt make any waves on the recruiting trail. i just keep thinking that Texas may not know how to hire a football coach.

Mora's a great coach. . .if we are going with the baseball analogy. .. while he might not be a home run (Saban Harbaugh Fisher), he's a double with men in scoring position. . .

Can recruit. ..doing well at UCLA. ..a mid-tier Pac 12 football destination. .excellent with fundamentals . .very personable with the media. .

Oh yeah. . .focus on D. . ..defense wins championships. . . .

Tell me what Mora has done? His conference record in the little more than average PAC 12 has been 6-4, 6-3. Not very impressive. He doesn't even have a Top 40 recruiting class for next year. Please explain to me why he should be a candidate. I don't care what the national media says......

I'll also add this. Mora is winning these ball games with players that Rick Neuheisel recruited.

Give me Strong over Mora any day. Successful DC at major program and proven recruiter. Made a huge recruiting splash in Miami area. If he can recruit in that state and convince those kids to come to a basketball school, imagine what he could do here.......A coach on his way up, can't say the same for Mora!

Patterson has seen him up close and personal in the Pac12 and has obviously been very impressed with him. I hear UCLA is recruiting a small class this year, so this may be why the class is down. His other 2 classes were stellar. If you saw UCLA pre-Mora play vs. today you would be impressed. He's taken a bunch of big, slow lumbering guys and made them competitive.

no offense but when people say doesn't move the needle or doesn't help recruiting I just dont see how thats known. Mora is a respected guy with extensive NFL experience

Texas shouldn't need a superstar flashy media name to recruit big in Texas. The most important thing to get back to pulling in big guys is WINNING. Texas has built in recruiting advantages but lack of success on the field has hurt that

Texas would get plenty of pub and praise nationally if they hired Mora....the views inside UT message boards dont reflect the national opinion about the guy

Im not saying he's my first choice, but some stuff lately just hasnt made sense to me

It has nothing to do with "splash" for me as I believe there are a lot of great coaches that would do really well at Texas. My issue with Mora is that he wins the games he should and tends to get beat by the ranked opponents. We already had that - do we really want a younger version of it?

Additionally, UCLA seems to have won LA with USC being short on scholarships so his two years of college head coaching experience is pretty well timed for the optics, but how will it play out in the long run? Maybe he'd kill it here, and I'm going to get behind whoever the coach is, but I don't like him as much as some of the other names floating around (even removing Saban/Fisher from the pool).
