Why not Kirby Smart?

If Saban WAS going to honor his new contract and plans on staying for another 5 to 7 years, why not talk to Kirby Smart? I remember the young hot assistant who came to Oklahoma. I think Kirby would be willing to leave for UT if Saban isn't going anywhere. This is just my opinion.

I like Kirby, but Texas isn't bringing in a DC when we've got a hundred million dollars to burn on a new HC contract.

But he would be the head coach. He would have unlimited funds to hire the best young assistants out there. He is an unbelievable recruiter and learned from the best. I am sure he could steal part of Sabans current staff also.

Because if you've got ten grand to blow on a hooker, you don't get on craigslist. I like Kirby, he's got a lot of potential, but you don't fire Mack Brown to bring in a guy with zero HC experience.

IDK, I think Strong has a lot of potential... but I also had my heart set on Jimbo.

The Texas job is much bigger than it was 16 years ago and we still went after a former HC. What Texas needs is someone with a track record of results captaining a ship, not being first mate.

Well sounds like Jimbo is out. Smart is a gamble and he'll be lucky if Bama makes him the new prince du jour in Tuscaloosa imo.

What do we really know of Smart? Saban is a defensive coach. I'm not saying that Smart could coach for Saban and be a dud, but why has he not left yet? Could it be that Smart looks good because of Saban? I don't know the answers to these questions.

I'm not sold on Kirby Smart. If you look at the Saban coaching tree it does not exactly read like the who's who of highly successful coaches, with the exception of Jimbo Fisher.
