Why not Gundy?

Serious question. His name never gets mentioned. Is he untouchable at OSU? Would he never leave? Guy is a good to possibly great coach. Young, on the cutting edge offensively, has a team that plays physical football. He's turned out good defenses, which seems to be the one knock some folks have on Briles. For my money he's got to be considered right below the group of Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, Carrol.

If Briles is off the table now and Shaw isn't happening, tier 2 consists of Mora, Franklin, Strong, etc... Give me Gundy over any of those. I'd sure make him say no to $5.5 or $6 mil before I moved on to one of the 2nd tier guys.

I'm a big fan of Gundy. He's a players coach but he's still a professional. With that said, I think the only dancing he's ever going to do in Austin will be in the Visitor's Locker Room.

I also like Gundy. I think Gundy has had some disagreements with their AD at times and came close to taking the Tennessee job last year, so he might consider a move to Texas

I think Gundy would RUN to Austin if we offered him the job. He'd be crazy not to. And there have been some issues between him and the administration there.

I would take him in a heartbeat. I'd love for our offense to look like theirs. It's just a plug and play system. They lose players every year and don't miss a beat. Last year, they were down to their 3rd QB at one point and didn't have an issue whatsoever. And I love how their defense forces turnovers left and right. They don't always have a ton of talent, but they maximize the talent they have and they make plays. We could do a lot worse.

Same risk with Briles. He comes OR he refuses and uses it against you.

If he should feel so inclined, T Boone could match money shot for money shot right?

Gundy has not proved himself to be a first rate coach yet. Routing Mack Brown and shine in the weak Big 12 conference doesn't take great skills. There is also his embarrassing press conference tantrum thing.

Texas can afford to hire a proven first rate coach. The hurdle has been a pathetic lack of brains in the administration, such as DeLOSS (brain dead) Dudd.

While Gundy is a good coach but I think there are better. I think Briles is a better coach. Gundy should have played LSU after 2011 season and they would have beaten the crap Miles brought to the superdome and Gundy would have a title. but I like Briles and a few others much more.

But Gundy > Mack, that's for sure.

I don't know about Briles being decidedly better than Gundy. Career Gundy is 4-2 against Briles including some pretty big beatdowns. One of which occured during RGIII's Heisman year.

Not knocking Briles but I don't think you can say he's undisputably better. The fact that Gundy is 10+ years younger helps too IMO. Both good coaches. We will get to see Briles with his best team ever take on Gundy this week. I don't think Briles is attainable, but I'm not so sure Gundy isn't. As I said above I'd sure make him say no before I went on to Mora, et al..

One is doing it at Ok st, another at BU. lets look at the past 10 yrs or if u want history of both programs b4 Gu du/Briles arrival.

Briles has done at Bu better than almost anyone has done at any other school.

Dude, look at Baylor history b4 Art.

Everyone knows that Baylor was a wasteland prior to Briles' arrival. Let's not act like OSU is some great traditional power though. They were a combined 58-59 with Simmons and Miles. Miles goes 28-21 over 4 seasons. Certainly we can agree that Gundy has taken them up a notch from there. OSU was on the cusp of a national title game not too long ago. Again not knocking Briles' accomplishments at all, just saying Gundy ain't no slouch either. Bottom line, I'd be thrilled with either as our next coach and I think Gundy would be a more realistic possibility.

Edit: going all the way back to Jimmy Johnson (1979) OSU was a grand total of 5 games over .500 before Gundy arrived. Gundy is 40 games over during his tenure.

I'm havent said anything near Gundy being a slouch and am not saying Ok St is even A&M. But comparing Briles and Gundy and their respective careers at Bu and Ok St. Not a comparison really, a Briles wins hands down. Gundy could do very well at Texas but a riles would do better. IMO, a decent bit better.

I don't think $ will be an issue with Briles. Buyout has been btw $5 million to $20 million. Does he really want to leave Bu? It would be hard to say no to $6-$8 million at Texas. His ties to Texas HS is great. If he can get players to commit to Baylor when they have offers from Texas, Aggies and Ou, imagine what he would do at Texas. He would really have to sit and think about it.

If he was at least behind the scenes talking to Aggies then I believe he would leave for Texas.

I am not one to believe he has some hatred towards Texas.
