Since Mack derailed the Hicks, Rowling & Tillerson team from hiring Saban, it is going to be interesting to see if Patterson now takes the the lead on the coaching hire?

I imagine we'll hear about a selection committee being formed.

Probably Powers, Dodds, and Brown, with Patterson being the non-voting secretary

How long do you think the vetting process will take. Id imagine for recruiting we'd want someone quickly.

I would think Patterson will head it up and some sort of committee will be formed. I wouldn't be surprised if IMG hasn't already started vetting potential candidates.

Great question McP....

I personally think it is time for Patterson to shed the glasses and suit, reveal the cape and show us what he is......Yes a committee to study and recommend sounds nice, but I think they know who they want.....I feel that Powers now knows he has outkicked his coverage and will back away, finally letting the AD make the move....

Of course, Red and JJ will put in their $.02, but I still hope that Patterson will step up and be the man..

Your earlier post on stopping to see Briles got my attention....I'll take him right now even before looking behind curtain #2.....even though I really wanted Saban or Urban.....

Looking forward to how this all plays out....popcorn is ready.....keep up the good work

Tom

I agree with a streamlined version of the AD committee minus the extra folks who were there for window dressing.

If Mack was able to greatly influence the Saban deal, what level of influence might he have on his successor?

BA boom

Mack is out of the loop and Powers has felt enough heat to let Patterson take the lead on this. I agree it will be a committee and they will probably look at 8 or so guys before getting it down to 2 or 3

This could take 3 or 4 weeks

after the BMD and regents who were in the process of hiring Saban got so pissed they basically forced Mack to step down yesterday or else I cant imagine Mack will be "picking" anything in regard to a new coach

he may get a token input but I doubt Patterson will have any obligation to go with it if others differ

Bert, I would think the whole point of a committee like this would be to fence Mack out of the decision making process. Mack's ability to manipulate people and situations is a function of his personal relationships with those individuals. A committee would be immune to that non-sense, especially a committee stacked with people absolutely pissed at him for double crossing them.

Mack would not be involved, Powers would not be involved other than superficially, and Patterson would be the executive agent for the committee and point man for all direct contact and negotiations.

Agree with Dizz

Watching Mack, he took a shot at Chip and the internet. Basically saying some of the media has done the job with integrity while others took shortcuts

It boggles my mind he uses the word integrity only when it is convenient for him to point he is not being fairly treated.

Darrell, that whole press conference was nothing more than classic passive aggressive Mack taking veiled shots at his "enemies" combined with the old tried and true political fallback of wrapping yourself in the flag....which in this case means acting like all he cared about was the kids, winning with integrity, yada yada, topped off by with his piece de resistance bringing up Cole Pittman and the Bonfire Tragedy.

Mack is shrewd enough to know even Richard Nixon could come off as sympathetic when talking about puppy dogs...or in this case kids who died tragically. I feel sorry for people who don't see through his act. The man is a thin skinned, insecure, and petty politician who is a very effective manipulator of people who's sincerity is inversely proportional to how much he benefits from his words/actions...period.

Can you tell I'm still white-hot pissed at the man over what went down last week? :)

Are these the infamous "three amigos" ?

A committee was formed when Mack was hired. If I'm not mistaken, it took exactly 5 days from announcement to announcement. Is this correct?
