What is the drop dead date?

not sure. I would think it has to go down after the bowl. some have speculated UT will ask him to wait until their coach is ready to also be announced....IE Mack announced and new coach is announced shortly after.

I thought the job had to be officially "open" for said number of days before a new head coach is announced. You'd think we would need to having an opening at the position sooner rather than later, especially with the dead period coming...

If he wanted the Alamo Bowl i think he would announce soon. The Alamo Bowl will have a really good Pac 12 Team (Pac 12 #2), and he may want to face a weaker Big 10 Team in the wild wings bowl for a better chance to win.
