Pretty simple stuff, hope to get some interesting returns:

1 - Best UT Athletics moment

2- Worst UT Athletics moment

3- The worst moment/incident involving any school which was or is in the SWC or Big12 (not including SMU's death penalty)

Best Moment--Texas shutting down Staubach on Jan 1, 1964, winning the schools first NC and shutting up Navy coach Wayne Hardin. this was the tough one because it competes with Texas -Arkansas 1969, Texas -Notre Dame of that same season and Texas - USC in Jan 2006

Worst Moment-- probably the Miami cotton bowl game, or James Saxton going out with a head injury in the 1961 TCU game which of course cost us the game and the NC. this competes with the dropped punt in the 1985 Cotton Bowl and the dropped interception in the Texas-Texas Tech game.

Worst incident--either the bonfire tragedy or the OSU basketball team plane crash

#1 is tough. if it's games in person I'll go with my freshman year attending my 1st ou game, 1977. Earl and company ended a six year winless streak with a dramatic 13-6 win that kickstarted a run to #1. honorable mention is beating the ags at kyle in '95 for the final SWC title, gardere to cash vs ou in '90, justin tucker vs a&m, ricky's run, Dusty's FG vs michigan.

#2 is easy. the cotton bowl vs UGA following the '83 season. biggest kick in the cajones ever.

#3 aggie bonfire collapse.

My Three?

1. 1958 (I was a frosh) Bobby Lackey throwing the winning TD pass to Bob Bryant. The first time UT beat OU in like 100 years!

2. TCU - winning at Memorial Stadium in the "cockroach" game.

3. Aggie bonfire tragedy - these weren't just aggies, they were Texas children dying and the whole state mourned.

EDIT: I've reconsidered #3 and as horrific as the aggie tragedy was, it did not eclipse the UT tower sniper. That was absolutely ungodly.

1) It's a toss-up. My first UT game (1990 vs Houston), watching Ricky break the record, or being in the stands when VY scored the winning TD against USC.

2) Being in the stands again....when Colt gets knocked out of the 2010 game against Bama

3) aggie bonfire

My three:

1 - Best UT Athletics moment: VY on 4th & 5 (Soon to be an outstanding 30 for 30 episode) Close 2nd was "Roll Left"

2- Worst UT Athletics moment: 1991 Cotton Bowl vs Miami. Embarrassing performance

3- The worst moment/incident: 1999 aggie bonfire collapse

Best UT Athletics moment - Texas vs USC in NC Game

Worst UT Athletics moment - Texas vs Alabama in NC Game

The worst moment/incident involving any school which was or is in the SWC or Big12 (not including SMU's death penalty) - A&M Bonfire

slim the Worst Moment you posted are very good ones. I just wish you had not brought them up and I had to relive them all over again. :( My friends y'all have a great week.

Best - 4th and 5 with Vince

Worst - Craig Curry's muffed punt; sack/fumble on Gilbert in 2009 MNC; Cotton Bowl against Miami

Worst moment - my GPA after sophomore year

Too many great moments; few worst UT moments; one worst moment.

1. Texas defeats #1 SMU for the conference championship in 1950; Vince vs USC; defeat of Staubach and Navy in CB. There are a lot of others.

2. 1-9 season in 1956; punter dropping the ball against OU late in game in 1950 (cost us a NC); the HCIW debacle that precipitated the ugly 2010 season. A few others.

3. The Aggie bonfire collapse. My daughter was a "bonfire girl" 1995-1999. At 6AM that morning, I was terrified because I couldn't reach her on the phone. She was fine, but lost friends. A sad day. We had Thanksgiving that year with Chancellor Cunningham (whose son was an Aggie) then went to the Memorial at Kyle Field. An amazing experience that I will never forget.

Best - 2005 National Championship win over USC.

Worst - Losing Colt in the NC game v Alabama.

Worst involving any school - Aggy bonfire

Best: 1964 Navy/1969 Arkansas/2006 USC (Hon. Mention 1958 OU/1963 OU)

Worst: 1961 TCU

Worst anywhere: Bonfire tragedy

Best= Tie between 1963 (season) Cotton Bowl win over Navy, 1969 win over pig in game of century, same season cotton Bowl Win over Notre Dame, and the 2005 NC win

Worst= Craig curry fumble, loss to Ga, cost us the MNC in 1983 season

other moments, agree with Aggy Bonfire

You never responded to my previous question. Are you in any way related to THE Blair Cherry?

I believe you are addressing the son of B Cherry, he has been a judge in west texas for many a year, retired now I believe

Ah! Well, His dad was definitely a UT icon and it explains how he knew about the 1956 disaster year. AND, if he knew about the 1950 SMU team, he certainly knew about my boyhood football idol - The Doaker (Doak Walker)

Best: National Championship game win in Jan. 2006 over "the greatest college football team of all time"

Worst: National Championship game loss to Notre Dame, 38-10, on Jan. 1, 1978. 1977 had been such a magical, wonderful year. UT won some tough games against some tough teams (OU & Arkansas) and definitely earned the #1 ranking. Then Earl won the Heisman!! It was all going so great, then to get totally shellacked by the Irish like that in the Cotton Bowl.

Worst incident: Unequivocally, the Aggie Bonfire tragedy

1. James Street to Randy Peschel in '69 Arky game. Perfect pass into double coverage on a huge gamble. (2nd place- Roll Left)

2. 83 Cotton Bowl vs Georgia. Lastinger's sweep w/a non-holding call late. Never been sicker since thought Miami would beat NU later that night.

3. Marshall FB team air crash is '70. (know it's not SWC or Big 12, but still remember how tragic that was)
