Welcome to the 40 Shaquille Cleare

The ducks, they are a falling in line for the near future.  Here is a Burnt Orange Nation article by Wescott Ebertsand a Barking Carnival article by JC_Hoops  Both articles for the SB*Nation web sites conglomeration say basically the same thing, but the comments are always worth reading, and there are a couple of videos attached to the Burnt Orange Nation article.  Seems like the aircraft carrier center in college basketball has been usually non-existent in near recent history.  Maybe Coach Barnes has decided to re-introduce this long lost concept.  We now have a plethora of biggums with which to create chaos in the paint.  I like it.  Now, I am not asking so much, but I want some more stretch threes to go along with Jordan Barnett ... this year, next year, take your time ... we can make do in the meantime ... THEN,  I will be happy!  ;)

Todd Wright, come on down.  We have a project for you on aisle nine!  Shaquille Cleare needs the Cameron Ridley/Dexter Pittman treatment STAT!

I think Flanagan's opinions in the article are well thought out. This looks like a move to bolster depth. Although a change in scenery & teammates has changed many kids' potentials....

And Flanagan's note about Turner being a one or two year player at Texas is reality.  We are all eagerly awaiting his decision to play at Texas but the Horns will only have him for a year, possibly two.

two would be great

Looks like he has two years.

And, plays the piano.

I want to see some resistance contraptions attached to those piano keys, and Todd Wright standing behind him with a big ol' conductor's baton, er, 2x4 counting off cadence, "A one an' a TWO!  A one an' a TWO!"  ;)

FYI Jordan Barnett was given a substantially big bump in recruiting rank on most sites. A Barnett, Turner and Cleare class is damn good. Not only did Barnes save his job last year, he's put together two very good classes in the last two years.

Here is an article on Cleare from Jan 2012

He has an interesting story.  Give it a read if you have time.

The 6-foot-9, 280-pound Cleare has garnered attention as one of the nation’s top 30 high school seniors, averaging 26 points per game while shooting 83 percent. When he arrives at Maryland next fall, he will represent the cornerstone of Coach Mark Turgeon’s rebuilding project.

Not even Cleare envisioned such a scenario three years ago, when he was an introspective freshman who arrived in America having barely played organized basketball, a depressed teenager who so disliked his living conditions here that he vowed to leave America for good.

“I came from the gutter,†Cleare said. “I came from, like, the bottom.â€

Thanks, Juan.  That is a tough story ... sheds kind of a different light on what should be considered success for him.  Kind of creates a different mind set for how I will feel when I am rooting for him at Texas.  I think Coach Barnes will be good for him.
