Strong is in the third year of a five-year deal. If fired after the season, he would receive a $10 million buyout.

Strong is done. He will get his money and that will be the end of it.

$10 million won't stop Texas from firing Charlie if thats what they want to do. Money is not an obstacle here.

I hate everything about this. I really like Charlie. And I feel bad that I've lost faith in him. He's a good man. But I don't think this is going to work.

OU game is critical, for sure. If we lose that in the fashion that I think we can lose that game, the Longhorn Nation will have its hair on fire.

I don't think either Cal or OSU has half the offense that OU does.

Here's the facts: Charlie's a great leader, a top-notch recruiter, and he's had a ton of success as a DC. However, it seems like his biggest undoing is not preparing his players mentally, and doing a horrible, horrible job in evaluating his coaching staff. If Bedford's not gone by Monday morning, Charlie needs to go. We can't let his sentimental ties with his good buddy Vance drag this program through the mud for the next god-knows-how-many years, no matter what the buyout is. The BMDs won't balk at the prospect of paying $10m if it means we can get someone like Tom Herman.

If Charlie wants to have any chance of seeing years 4 and 5 of his contract, he needs to grow a pair and fire Vance, like he should have in the offseason.

This!  And part of this is hiring them in the first place.  How many of Strong's original staff he brought to Texas are still here after 2 years?  Bringing back coordinators after years that are at the statistical bottom of Texas history and then firing them a few games into the season indicates a big problem... and I am not referring to the coordinators.

Ditto

Something tells me 10 mill won't stop Texas from buying out his contract. Have to think some big money donors will pass the hat to make that happen if this keeps up. Wasn't Les Miles' buyout more than that? Think I saw someone say it was 12 mill, but I could be making it up.

If Strong is staying then he needs to be recruiting some of defensive coaches from LSU right about now

I think Big Mike is right....he's gone if UT doesn't win at least 8.

Too many embarrassments during Strong's brief tenure, including the 2016 defense. Sometimes, things just don't work out. Maybe Red was right in the first place. Charlie sure looks in over his head.

Sad, but true

Yep recruiting is dead at this point.
THATS the thing that kept me from going to bed Sat night more than just pure anger over the game.  It's taken 3 years to build up to the amazement that was the seemingly never ending 2016 recruiting cycle.  Just one more class and most of the holes were filled; esp if we got Browning, Wilson, etc.  Now, as Juan said, UT's lost all that momentum.  Yea, Winning solves a lot, but there's still too much turmoil here.  Who will be the DC next year, what Def position coached will be back, will CFS be back.  We are/were so close.  Starting over and having to wait another 2, 3, TBD years is just gut renching.

At this point, he is all but fired at season end.  The scapegoat has been removed and play calling wont fix what I saw in Stillwater.
