Recap of Week 9:

TCU runs out of fireworks
The Horned Frogs put up 82 points in a win over Texas Tech. 82 points! There certainly wasn’t a shortage of offensive fireworks for Gary Patterson’s squad, but the Athletic Department ran short.

After touchdowns and field goals by the Horned Frogs, TCU launches fireworks off the top of Meyer-Martin Athletic Complex. With a potent offense this season, TCU ran short on fireworks against Texas Tech. With the Horned Frogs leading 68-27, officials contacted the sideline to let them know there was only enough supply for one more touchdown.

TCU scored two more times.

Smothered in the Little Apple
The Texas Longhorn offense has been inconsistent throughout the 2014 season. On Saturday, in Manhattan, KS, the Texas offense reached a level of futility Horns fans haven’t experienced in 10 years – the Wildcats shutout Texas, 23-0.

The game was the first time that Texas was held scoreless in 132 games (2004, 12-0 loss to OU). Additionally, with the win, KSU has beaten Texas in six of the last seven games played, and Texas fell to 1-6 all time in Manhattan.

Mountaineers assert themselves
WVU traveled to Stillwater in a game that would decide which team still had an outside shot at competing for a conference title. It turned out that the Cowboys weren’t actually much of a match against the Mountaineers, with WVU winning, 34-10.

The Cowboys were shutout in the second half, and that comes one week after only scoring 9 points against TCU. With Texas and Oklahoma still on OSU’s schedule, some Cowboy fans are wondering how important Joe Wickline was to the offensive coaching staff.

Flanagan’s Big 12 ranking for Week 10:
1. Kansas State
2. TCU
3. Baylor
4. West Virginia
5. Oklahoma
6. Oklahoma State
7. Texas
8. Texas Tech
9. Iowa State
10. Kansas

Big 12 Game of the week:
TCU at West Virginia (2:30 CST, ABC/ESPN2)
Most people have the Mountaineers pegged as the “best-of-the-rest” team in the Big 12, believing they aren’t consistently as good as the top of the league, but better than the other teams in the conference. This Saturday, on their home field, WVU gets a shot to validate their win over OU and elevate into the top tier of teams in the Big 12.

The media is hyping TCU as a darkhorse playoff team, so the Horned Frogs need to continue their assault on the national polls by beating WVU. This game is an interesting battle between the Big 12’s newest members and will be a statement of which program has progressed enough to join the top tier of teams in the league.

Other Big 12 games:
OU at Iowa State (11am CST, FS1)
Kansas at Baylor (3pm CST, FS1)
Texas at Texas Tech (6:30 CST, FS1)
Oklahoma State at Kansas State (7pm CST, ABC/ESPN3)

TCU ran out of fireworks but they still had the Frog Horn!
