We're running a bit behind schedule this week. With all the dismissal drama at the end of the week, most sources were preoccupied. Toss in that 3 of the staff attended Media Days on Monday & Tuesday and we're behind schedule. We'll run both features this weekend.

Until then, let's talk RRS, the Cotton Bowl and the Sooners...

Interesting write up but I do see a few things differently. .

OU winning the conference is "business as usual"?   Maybe you meant being favored only to disappoint

If OU wins the BigXII, it will be the 1st time in 3 seasons. . . (2010)

Not much question that Bama could have cared less about the consolation game though still a nice win for "BigGame Bob" .. . of course don't tell me the teams, tell me there is a 5-1 turnover margin and I'll bet big on the 5.

OU has taken an offense 1st approach since at least Sam Bradford. . .I think the myth of their D died vs USC in 2004. . . . though I do suspect this year it's OU/KSU or TEXAS as top D in the BigXII. . ..

Now Striker might be my favorite for DPOY this year. . .kid is a flat out baller. . .

As always, TEXAS' biggest game of the year. . .and as usual. . .it will come down to (as you said) play up front and turnovers. . . .

I believe Stoops will be conditioned into thinking another soft Texas team as usual.  He may be somewhat anxious as he doesn't know what to expect from Strong, but his monumental ego will override prudence.  At this point he will discover that Charlie plays smash mouth football and the kernel of retirement thinking will commence - just like it did with Bud Wilkinson.

We will beat OU this year - even without Ash.

Last year's game against OU in the cotton bowl showed how good we can be when playing smash mouth football. We beat them up and down the field. I think we will really enjoy seeing a consistent offense that sticks with what is working.

Stoops has won the league in more than 50% of the seasons since he's been at OU. That's impressive no matter who you cheer for. And, yes, that's "business as usual".

Got to agree with Matt. Stoops has won the B 12 more than anyone else.

Having said that, we kicked his nuts last year and my memory of events prior to then is hazy. (Cough cough)

At any rate, he is an overrated , douch bag ass hat. On his good days

Yes Matt. . .you are 100% correct. . .he is one title over .500. . ..

But he has also not won in 3 seasons.  .4 after this one as I do not think he wins.

By that standard, Mack was still #3 wins of all CFB teams so we should not have fired him. . . but the trend/the last 4 years was a different story . ..

As I said, especially lately, OU's true "business as usual" is being ranked way to high early and underachieving. . .

But then the Big Game Bob moniker that used to be his "badge of honor" has become his albatross .. .

I think Texas has a great shot at beating OU again this year (though I think OU will probably win the conference unfortunately). Look back at the times we've beaten OU in the last decade. The times we did, we were tough; the times we didn't, it's because we played soft. I don't think our toughness is going to be much of a question from here on out under Strong.

I agree with you Marian..on all points. But I hope the Longhorns don't ever get to the point where beating the Sooners makes it a successful season..........like aggy did back in its days in the Big 12 (when a win over the Horns was enough to keep them happy). If we beat OU, I expect us to win the Big 12. Not saying that will happen...just saying that's what I expect and anything less will be disappointing.

As I think of it...brings up an interesting scenario. Would you be happier if we beat OU but came in 2nd in Big 12...or the unlikely event...we lose to OU by a blow out margin but recuperate to win the Big 12?  I'm sure this is a no brainer for most...but a tough call for me. I hate OU with such a passion that a blow out loss to the bastards would make me sick for 2 weeks minimum.

Pringlelake

Your question is an interesting one before the season starts. But once we start playing no one ever looks at it that way. I am sick for two weeks after we lose any game.

I want to win the big 12 and stomp a mudhole in blow u's ass. In certain seasons I may not expect to do either one but am disappointed when either doesn't happen. We are hard to please.

echeese, who's the better DC in your opinoin: Mike Stoops or Brent Venebles?

I don't think Stoops will be underestimating Strong, he coached with the guy and knows what he is about.  In my mind, it will be a question of whether or not the OU players underestimate him or not.

Right after Strong was hired, Stoops said to his assistants, "They hired the right guy."

I think Stoops knows that the days of laughing at Mack Brown and Texas in Dallas are over.

Hook'em!

I dont think Stoops will consider UT soft. He got his best offense of all time destroyed by Charlie Strong in a BCS title game. If anything he will over prepare for the game, and that (to me) is as bad as being ill prepared.

Bitch wasn't laughing last year. . . . .

The list of coaches that Mack will forever have scoreboard on is a pretty impressive one. . . .
