He notified head coach Brian Mayper this evening that he would be joining his football program at Navarro College for the coming year. Coach Mayper seems to think Brandon is good enough to get noticed by several schools after his time at Navarro.

Things kind of fell apart with McMurry as they opted to go back to Div III football and not offer athletic scholarships. They did offer a $10K academic scholarship but that left a hefty balance (private school) that I couldn't take on.

Navarro stayed in touch with Brandon through the whole thing. Coach Mayper called a couple weeks after signing day to find out if Brandon was still available and things just kind of took off from there. They hosted us on a visit this past week.

While I love McMurry, it was kind of an eye opener to notice that Navarro's facilities were newer and nicer. I think Brandon will enjoy the two-year stint there. I like the fact that he won't be far from home. :o

Well, this explains a lot.

Miller steps down as McMurry Football head coach

ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University head football coach Mason Miller has announced his resignation in order to pursue another coaching opportunity.

“We thank Mason for his five years of service to McMurry University,” said Dr. Paul Fabrizio, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Given the recent decision by the University to return to NCAA III, we understand that some staff members might choose to pursue other options more in line with their career goals. We wish him all the success in his next position.”

McMurry defensive coordinator Kendall Roberson has been named the interim head coach while a search for the new head coach is conducted. Roberson came to the McMurry program in 2009 and coached the War Hawks’ secondary. He was promoted to defensive coordinator last season under Miller.

The University has already begun its search for Miller’s replacement and hopes to have a new head coach in place as soon as possible.

Well that does explain a lot. Sure Brandon is in the right place for him and know it will be good for him to be closer and who knows what his two years there will open up for him.

Congrats to him and to you all.
