Turner

Any truth to the rumor that Turner would follow John Lucas to UH if he gets that job?

I just read that this morning, but was just from a poster on another forum, not a "source".  Somebody who is a "source", please say it ain't so!

Here iis some video of a 7'-1" sophomore by the name of Thon Maker.  He already has offers from NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgetown,  Miami, and Arizona.  I don't know whether he has any  interest in Texas, but it looks like Texas should have some  interest in him - he works out regularly with John Lucas, which could be good or bad for Texas considering the speculation that Houston might be interested in Lucas as its' next coach.  Of course, people are making the obligatory comparison of Maker and Kevin Durant as seems fashionable now with any tall, skinny kid that has a reasonable shot and handle that runs well.

1- The Houston job is Sampson's to lose at the moment IMO. Houston isn't going to hire Lucas to just get Turner. You don't hire a guy for the potential of getting a player, a player that may only play for one year. Houston has also reiterated they want a coach with college coaching experience, something Lucas doesn't have. I would say it's unlikely that Lucas gets the Houston job, but I've seen crazier things happen.

2-Hiring Lucas would definitely help Houston's cause in getting Turner. Don't think it means Turner would automatically go there, like others are stating. His parents are high on education and Turner wants to win. Sorry can't see Turner passing up on Texas, Kansas, or Duke for Houston regardless of his relationship with Lucas.

I agree with what you are saying.  Lucas to Houston does not make sense to me either ... let's get Myles Turner for Texas and follow that up with Thon Maker in a couple of years.  Hey, it's the off season and I can dream can't I?  ;)

Here is a Yahoo Sports article about Houston's talks with Kelvin Sampson ...

I don't think Houston will take either Sampson or Lucas. I expect it to be something a bit "fresher" based upon what I was told by a couple of former players. BUT...I wouldn't bet money on it...one way or another.

Something is going down. Someone must have gotten some intel on Turner, because a bunch of people on 247 are changing their picks to Texas. Including probably the most respected and well known analyst in Jerry Meyer. Pretty big news.

Yes, something is going down....first the format changes and now we have Turner  was  is going too SMU, HOUSTON and now going back to Texas (last is answer).

I like where you went with that ... I am not so sure how you got there, but I sure do like your conclusion.  ;)

Bumpity goes the topic ... I think we need to keep this thread on the front page while his recruitment is still open

Obviously no news, but here is the latest article that I could find on Myles Turner.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2013955-myles-turners-commitment-is-one-of-most-coveted-in-all-of-college-basketball

Here is a great link to a video that is an interview with Myles his parents and significant others that is worth a watch.  Myles is a very well spoken young man.  In fact, his entire family is well spoken, including his eleven year old sister - very refreshing.  At the end of the video, text flashes on the screen that says that he has kept his recruitment open because he wanted to bring more exposure to his teammates.  Makes me wonder whether he has already made up his mind.  Whatever the case may be, it looks like he will bring a lot more than just basketball to which ever university he chooses to play for - a very impressive young man.

Also, from Burnt Orange Nation, here is a good read by Jeffrey Haley entitled, "Texas Longhorns Basketball:  Comparing results with preseason expectations".

Here is my daily bump for the Turner thread.  Attached is a PDF with the box scores from last night's all star game.   Myles played 21 minutes, made two of three 2-point shots, one of one 3-point shots, and two of three free throws for a total of seven points.  He had seven defensive rebounds and no offensive rebounds.  He had, one assist, two turnovers, and no personal fouls.

shaunsters is on OB now saying KU is making up ground on UT. I hope HS' sources are better than his.

Last 6 picks on 247 have been for Texas. As long as Jerry Meyer continues to think Turner is coming to Texas, I'm going to feel comfortable. Granted, there's still plenty of time for Kansas to get back in the game.

Jerry Meyer tweeted a couple days ago that he thinks Turner will most likely end up at Texas regardless of Embiid, but if Embiid stays it's almost a certainty that Turner ends up at Texas. Jerry Meyer has like an 80 percent correct prediction rate on 247. It would be much higher too if he was like other analysts, where he was selective on his crystal ball predictions....Meyer makes predictions on almost every player so an 80 percent prediction rate is pretty incredible. Meyer is known to be in the loop of a lot of inside info, so his crystal ball change from Kansas to Texas tells me something is there.

I did not say I agreed with shaunsters but merely was reporting. I do not think Embiid makes a difference either because Turner will not play the 5.

Thanks, didn't mean to be confrontational. Just reiterating what's going on over at 247.
