Seems that Max Olson at least contributed^He does say "we."
They don't really explain how "they" arrived at their rankings. To do a true apples-to-apples is next to impossible. They'd need to make a rivalry game with good weather (rain or 105 in the shade doesn't count) and remove all bias (Jake Trotter) from the equation. This is typical ESPN off-season space filler. Just a quick snapshot of the '13 season. Hardly evidence to make million dollar changes to our stadium.

My opinion is it's the physical structure of the various stadiums that is the most important aspect. Sept. is one of the most windy months and our stadium is open to the south. That's the biggest problem. Heat is another.

If we're winning, like the '08 & '09 teams, we'll have great crowds like we did then.

As a current student, I argue both as well as there is no incentive to get there on time. Greek life gets there halfway through the first and is so drunk that it doesn't matter what they cheer about. Those in the Greek community that do care, get there around kickoff and are loud. There needs to be some sort of incentive to getting there early and staying to the end, as bad as that sounds.
like what? you can't MAKE people care.
i hate to be simplistic 'winning cures all' guy, but it will surely cure a lot. i suspect 4 years of mediocrity has been a bit of a buzzkill for the students. and alums for that matter.that and don't export any high-profile games to mexico effing city.

It sounds like you would put UT in the top 5 conference student sections? (I wouldnt).

Here is their list --

1. Texas Tech:

2. Baylor:

3. Oklahoma State:

4. Kansas State:

5. Iowa State:

OK, so which one(s) of these student sections would you vault UT over?

In '08 & '09, I would certainly vault us over BU & ISU.

as mentioned above, BU is getting credit for selling out its allotment of student tickets for the last game at floyd casey with the conference title on the line...against texas. i guess that's noteworthy. oh, and they've rushed the field 4 times in the last 5 years. ok.
aggie students are celebrated as spirited because they stand, bend and grab their crotches and and robotically follow instructions to chant from skinheads. kudos to them.

i'm with driftwood. when the product and opponent is good, the entire stadium (students/alums/others) is buzzing. when it's not, yeah, it's laid back.

lastly, i'd guess the impressions of most of the people on this board of tech, k-st et al is formed from attending games where UT was the visitor. their stadiums will rock when we come to town. what are they like when Louisiana Directional School visits in September ??

Football games clearly are not enough. . .

We seem to have the dinosaurs and the kiddies both making silly statements. . ..

Crowd noise does impact even NFL quality players. . .the idea is does not is laughable. . ..

I agree that consolidating the students would be a big help. . but keep in mind. .students account for less than 10% of our fans in the stands. .

The idea that going into DKR with double or nearly double the attendance most teams face week in and week out isn't an impact is equally silly. . .

Diggs and Reed made me proud to be a Longhorn with those comments. Glad to see the players admitting there is a problem and proposing ways to fix it.

But the current generation is fed up with the "please be quiet during football games" attitude. I should rephrase its not that they are too old (there is no such thing) it's that they are too polite and quiet for a football atmosphere and that could be any one of any age.

...what a disgrace! i am completely ashamed...

patterson, shall repair this dubious distinction. you can count on it!

It's funny to see the alumni side almost empty after halftime during a day game in September when temps are high, don't want our older fanbase to have heatstroke

Class of '91

When UT played #5 Houston in 1990, I know the crowd noise got to their QB Klingler and the Cougars' offense. Yes, it can make a big difference and Patterson should make an effort to block the students together closer to the visitors' bench if possible. I don't know if our fans will ever be considered as "rowdy" as LSU's or others, but do we really want to be compared to drunken coonasses?

old stereotype is old. we didn't have any september day games last year. i also don't recall seeing standing room only on the student side. actually, the east (student) side is more likely to empty out since they face the sun. we (the rich, old, entitled, arrogant alums) are sitting in the shade.
insult denied.
