Tom Herman

No offense but if we hired Lane Kiffin I might start rooting for Aggy. He got run out of USC in his big top tier debut. That was his last HC job. The same thing would happen here with tar and feathers. Imagine all that's going on right now and not liking CS as a person on top of that.

Caveat: never met LK, just my TV opinion.
Thank you. COMPLane Kiffin rode his dad's coattail to break in to the business. That isn't unique but he hasn't been impressive at all as a head coach. He has always struck me as immature.

Agree with Dee, at least with regard to Giles and Wyatt. Myself and others were saddened by Wyatt's departure. He's a good coach.

The only thing about Applewhite that causes me pause are the legal issues and his past here. If that's not an issue, legally or otherwise, I have no problem with the Major being on staff here.
Most of the former assistant coaches departures were a result of Mack or Charlie trying to keep their job. I doubt any of them are "bad coaches" but when your team is bad someone has to take the blame and normally that will be laid on the assistants. I was never a huge fan of Rick Barnes but I do respect the fact that before he was fired he had the opportunity to do the same thing. His response, "I couldn't do that. That would be me saying this is about me. I've been carried by a lot of people here. We're in this together."

Agree.  Often times firing assistants is akin to throwing luggage off a sinking ship.  It buys a little bit of time.

Joel Klatt has said a couple of times now, that the most qualified coach out there for places like Texas is Greg Schiano (former Rutgers Coach, current Ohio State Asst.).

Not sure this is a fit at all; but I do respect Joel Klatt's opinion... thoughts?

I don't have a clue how good a coach he is but his record is less than stellar.

Rutgers 68-67

Tampa Bay 11-21

I'm not a Schiano fan after trying to pull that crap in the NFL where he made his defense crash the center on kneel down plays at the end of games.  He claimed that he had a chance of causing a fumble but he just pissed off his players and the opposing team players.

Plus, he's a damn yankee on top of everything else. Another Mackovic?

So a friend of mine threw out a suggestion. We hire to AD and coach from Louisville. Any thoughts, good bad or indifferent

I think Petrino is a good Coach , but for his sake he needs to stay with Louisville and not make another jump for at least a few more years. I just say that as they took a big risk of hiring him a second time when many were not in favor of that hire.

I heard that.

– Undefeated.

– Favored to win the conference

– Could very well be in the playoffs

– Fruits of his labor now finally showing

What does he do? He solicits a job interview elsewhere in the middle of a championship season while under contract with UW.

Doesn't make much sense to me. But maybe its just over my head. lol
It doesn't make sense to you because you misrepresented what he said. I know you read the 24/7 board all the time. It's fine if you want to disagree with someone on their inside sources and your inside sources. I myself have none. However, don't change what he said to make your argument better. As the British would say that's not cricket. He didn't say that Peterson solicited an interview with us. These things are done through an agent, so Peterson can say that he has not talked to Texas. Peterson said he will talk to us after the season which makes sense to me. Were going to hear a lot of rumors about the UT coaching job in the next couple of months and I try to apply some common sense when I hear them. It makes sense that Peterson would talk to us after the season.  .

You point out that it would be absurb for Peterson to start talking to Texas during the season with so much on the line with his team and I agree with that. However it looks like that's just what Herman and his agent has done. Houston's performance has gone down ever since the rumors of him going to LSU started to surface. Herman would have shown better judgment if he had told his agent that he's interested in the LSU job and would be glad to talk to them after the season.

I've read plenty of articles from when Mack Brown was here that Peterson would love the Texas job and the Austin environment is similar to Boise. He told Harsin that Texas is a job you can't turn down. It makes sense that he would want to talk to us after the season since he can always turn us down. It also makes sense for any coach that Texas shows an interest in for them to talk to us because that means a bigger bump in pay

One factor in UT's favor is Peterson had a better record at Washington than CS had at UT for his first two seasons, however UT finished 7th in recruiting and Washington finished 29th. If Peterson is going to have to go against Urban Meyer and Nick Saban in the playoffs then it helps to have just as many top recruits as they do. He can win a NC at Washington, however he can do it on a more consistent basis at UT.

On the other hand I can understand why Chris would want to stay at UW, Washington is a good place to live if you don't mind the rain and I'm sure there's less stress and pressure coaching there.

I doubt that Chris Peterson will be the next UT coach especially if Washington makes the playoffs. If Peterson is the top choice then it would be better for UW to lose a couple of games so they don't make the playoffs. UT would have to wait until January if they do make the playoffs and I'm not sure they would want to wait that long with the chance that Peterson will turn us down.

Herman looking another loss in the face. He shoulda left when he was undeafeated lol really looks like his team just laying down on him with all the rumors swirling.

You can want what's best for the University by keeping it classy and not doing things like that. Sorry, but I don't agree with stuff like that.

Also, Tom Herman isn't making things easy on those who are looking to hire him. I know a lot is going into why they have fallen off, but they are struggling against UCF who is on the road starting a true freshman at QB.

^^^^ I agree... seeing what CS has done ya can't help but worry about another non power 5 coach coming in.

No one has asked me yet; but Herman has coached himself out of my #1 spot.
