Tom Herman

Sure. I've been told that Peterson won't consider leaving the Pac NW. I was told back channels are at a fast pace right now. Herman's agent has been spoken with on a regular basis by people who are known as "set up" people. They do the talking so it never comes back to us. The objective is to have the table set when the time comes.
Well Lotushorn says that Peterson has said through back channels that he would love to replace Strong. So, we will see.

I heard that.

– Undefeated.

– Favored to win the conference

– Could very well be in the playoffs

– Fruits of his labor now finally showing

What does he do? He solicits a job interview elsewhere in the middle of a championship season while under contract with UW.

Doesn't make much sense to me. But maybe its just over my head. lol

So I'm mostly on board with Herman as a candidate, but I wanted to get other peoples' opinions about someone else. I'm probably in the minority for thinking this guy is a good idea, but...what do ya'll feel about Lane Kiffin? Would he be a realistic candidate?

Just thought it would be interesting to bring up.

I'm not going to be surprised if he winds up being a very good head coach. Especially after learning under Saban

However he is far too unpredictable for me. Don't want him.

That's fair. However I will say, the fact that he's currently under Saban's tutelage makes him appealing, IMO.

I think Kiffin ends up taking over at Alabama once Saban decides he is ready to hang it up, but who knows might come calling before that happens. With Herman being the main focus of everyone speculation it seems that the success of his offense is about having a very athletic QB who is also a running threat  which Buechele can run but he is not really a running threat. Be interesting to see if there would be any change at QB with Herman.

I think you are correct that he will likely make a very good head coach somewhere, someday.  I think it is a little too.... risky and he is a little too..... unpredictable for Texas.

We could do worse thank LK.

Since we are all having fun here.... if I had my druthers and could choose any coach in the country, with the provision that it had to register somewhere above ridiculous on the "doable" scale (in other words Meyer and Saben are not in consideration), my top choice would be....

Dabo Swinney

Big time success at Div 1, Power 5

Doesn't mind media attention

Offensive mind with balanced attack

Doesn't ignore defense

I just can't figure out what happened with Charlie here at Texas and not showing improvement. He has coached under some great coaches, been on National Championship teams. I know he is knowledgeable. He has upped the talent level here, but the results are worse. I don't know if it is the guys he has hired not coaching them up fundamentally or what. Or is it the players confused not grasping it? Some of the schemes appear to be not right, ie. playing 10-15 yards off receivers from Kansas St. and never adjusting. There is just a disconnect somewhere. I wish it would have worked, but in the 3rd year, I don't think any of us were expecting to go undefeated, but we all would agree we would like to see a product that is improving week to week. This is just my opinion.

Remember back before the first game when we thought ND would most likely win, but we would be improving and be quite dangerous later in the season?....WTF happened?..Seems like we are worse every game.I got excited in 2014 when all of a sudden our D knew how to tackle guys. Now it seems like we are so out of position, we cant even lay a hand on em to miss a tackle. I have never seen so many RB's, QB's and receivers go completely untouched for looonngg gains. Time of possession ??? WTF?

Sorry....hard not to rant with my mouth full of throw up all the time.

I like Dabo Swinney

He's definitely one that we should talk to along with UNC's Larry Fedora.

What about Bryan Harsin?
Two thoughts here:

1)  I liked Bryan Harrsin when he was here (albeit just one year).... I liked his offense and his no-nonsense approach.

2) I'm lazy.... what is his record like as a head coach?    Do his teams play on both sides of the ball?

I may get hammered with this statement but why would Harsin leave the area he was born in, raised in, played HS & college ball in and where he is the next thing to a King to come to Texas? Yea, Texas can pay him more but it's not always about money.

Plus if my memory is correct, he left Austin not happy and he saw the crap Brown dealt with. Maybe he doesn't want to have to deal with all that?

People laugh about Bill O'Brien because the NFL is so great, right?  I googled his salary.  It is 3.5 million per year.  He did a good job at Penn State the short time he was there, and that was with one hand tied behind his back.  Of course even if he was interested, he probably wouldn't be available until late, unless they lost early in the playoffs, and that wouldn't work.

My preference is still Meyer, and I don't care if we blow the top off of salaries.  Heck, we pretty much did that when we went after Saban before.  Bama did end up paying him 7.5.  If we can get Meyer, pay what it takes.  The man can do it all.  What good does it do to have all that money if it just sits in the bank?  Besides that, Meyer would make us more than he costs us.  Pay the man.

We won't know if he will come unless we ask, and I think he would fit here.  Give him what he needs for a defensive coordinator and a disciplinarian.  Let him have input on the hiring of the new AD, as long as that AD fits the other criteria.  He is a can't miss, and he is the right age.  If he wants to stay in Ohio, fine.  Herman shouldn't be offended that we wanted his old boss, first.

If Meyer would come, our 2017 class would take an immediate bounce, and we could probably have the coordinators of our choice.

Dammit, I want college football to be fun again, and I am not changing teams.  Hook 'em!
Love the enthusiasm, but as a misplaced Texan living in Indy, this is an area of expertise when it comes to knowledge about Urban. I interned for a particular media personality who coached at Bowling Green when Urban was there, I can wholeheartedly tell you Urban Meyer is never leaving Ohio State unless it's for retirement or a fantastic situation in the NFL. So, basically, he's never leaving Ohio State until he retires. Period. I'm not even speculating about this. The media personality I'm referencing shouldn't be hard to guess. I'd just rather not name drop. I'm merely trying to tell you, this guy texts Urban on a regular basis. Urban ain't going nowhere.

Though the idea of him at Texas, in my opinion, excites me more than Saban, at this point. But I'm not getting into that whole ordeal again like I did when I bought into the Saban rumors in 2013.

No offense but if we hired Lane Kiffin I might start rooting for Aggy. He got run out of USC in his big top tier debut. That was his last HC job. The same thing would happen here with tar and feathers. Imagine all that's going on right now and not liking CS as a person on top of that.

Caveat: never met LK, just my TV opinion.

From what I remember reading, he didn't want to deal with Mack Brown's crap.
