Thoughts of keeping Gilbert, Traylor , and Matt Mattox

With the high indication that Strong is now a lame duck Coach and the possibility that we will make a push for Tom Herman what would be the chance that these Coaches would be retained.  I pretty much feel that would be highly unlikely yet I really do like the direction and improvement that I have seen in our offense and the offensive line. My thoughts on Jeff Traylor is that he is a very valuable recruiting asset especially for East Texas and from all indications he works his ass off in what ever duties you ask him to perform.  I know Tom Herman has his own offensive scheme and most Coaches want to bring as many of their staff as possible to any new program. If Texas does not retain these Coaches then if I was Baylor these guys would be three I would want to talk to asap. You get the Briles offense without the ....well, lets just leave it at that.   There is a lot to consider about all of this from contract buyouts  to the question of Tom Herman's staff and who would join him and who might stay to try and be the Cougars next Head Coach.  I think it would be great to have  Tom Herman and these three Coaches all wearing Burnt Orange next season and beyond but rarely does it work out that way.

If tom herman comes then you give him whatever he wants. He obviously knows what is needed. If it meana sterling goes then im ok with that

New HC brings in whoever he wants.

Oh, and Traylor's special teams suck outside of our punter.

I was wondering if Traylor was coaching special teams. I would say our special teams are worse than our Defense and I wouldn't think that was possible. He is definitely out regardless of his recruiting ability.

A new Head Coach will be allowed to bring who he wants but I don't see Gilbert, Mattox, or any of the offensive staff as needing to be replaced. Everyone would like to score 50+ points a game but you shouldn't "have" to score 50. Shane wasn't 100% against Cal and neither smash brother was available in the second half of OK State. I just don't see the offense being a problem.

Other people on other boards and our very own Harrison Wier have said that Charlie took over primary special teams duties in the offseason. Traylor just working with TE apparently.

Random thought about Gilbert. I fully admit the offense is a heck of a lot better than last season. However, other than the TD pass down the middle to Beck, did Shane throw another pass to the middle of the field against Okie Lite? It feels like almost all of our pass plays this season are to the sidelines, and is a sense, we're becoming somewhat predictable and one dimensional in our passing game. I'm not reviewing film, but it feels like a defense could start to cheat on their coverage if we really are doing this.

All of that said, I could be crazy. Just feels like that's a trend while watching our offense.

I've got a potential solution.

Let's just fire Charlie if we get blown out by OU. Let Gilbert run the team for the remainder of the season. We won't be playing for anything meaningful, anyway. F it.

You're not crazy.

I made the same observation before the Beck TD. Finally! It was Greg Davis-esque 2nd Half against OSU. That's why Shane got picked. CB jumped the route.

I beat you to that recommendation a few days ago.

Well if that's the case we really are in trouble. TE coach? That's like being the Fullback coach

Well none of them are staying but have to wonder why anyone would want to see Gilbert's High School offense returned.

Sorry, give me Tom Herman/Urban Meyer's version of the spread anyday.

Greg Davis?   OSU????

Dude, generally you have a clue but that is too funny, in a holy shit, did you really say something that dumb kinda way.   GD's offenses flat OWNED OSU, includes 3 amazing come from behind wins.

What we saw was a Charlie Strong v OSU performance.... . .or frankly the 1st signs that Sterlin' was playing out of his league.

To your point, GD was pretty damn good with VY and Colt playing quarterback. Not so much otherwise. But, yeah, I'd take GD all day over Sterlin.

That's a great point.

Not like Ricky won a Heisman in his 1st season with GD and set the single season rushing record.

Not like Major was the League MVP in 1999

Not like Simms didn't start breaking records in 2000

Not like Hodges Mitchell isn't a Top 10 back at TEXAS thanks to GD's offense.

Hate to break this to you but a)   Name me a CO who does well without a quality QB.  . .I'll wait  and B)   GD was well on his way to being TEXAS' best OC even before Vince arrived.

Per Major (who still calls him weekly) Vince and Colt. . .GD a huge part of their success and development.

I admit, I never understood the hatred of Greg Davis by a lot of Texas fans.
