This site eating memory

This is one of the few sites I leave up 24X7 so I can easily access it but here lately, it's consuming my memory and making my laptop run very slow. I know this cause I closed the browser and everything else ran much faster. Anybody else having this issue? Maybe that's why some are complaining about the mobile version.

I haven't had much problem and I'm on a MacBook Pro. I leave open this site, FB and Intellicast at the same time. All of the three are graphic intensive so yes, it does eat memory. However, I have found this site surfs much smoother when I have FB closed.

Thing is, I've got 8 gigs of memory on this laptop. I don't think I'm using anywhere near capacity.

The mobile version has since established value in keeping Bear19 occupied and frustrated. lol

Any day now, he will outright call it a rat bastard. lol

Well I have 16gig of memory and I tried closing FB first since it's a known memory hog, didn't help. So based on the fact I see this site refresh constantly, I thought I'd give it a try by closing it. The second I did, everything ran much faster. It's a shame too since I enjoy this site a lot.

Clearing cache and cookies will help but just for awhile since they will fill back up. Something on this site is eating the crap out of memory. Time to get the techie nerds on this!

The mobile site version suckage began simultaneously with the server coming back up after it's crash two or three weeks ago. No doubt they are related. It ain't and never was my stinking cache.

FB = Facebook

And no, it's not your or my cache since if it was, all sites would run slow. I close this site and the rest of them speed up. I think that NCAA Bracket ad that comes up all the time isn't helping.

Just so y'all know, this is currently being addressed on multiple fronts. There will be changes coming, so some of the "that's how we've always done it" crowd may have to adapt to a new look and feel of the site when everything is completed.

No official ETA, but it's a total site conversion. Think "Pimp My Site."

Your patience is appreciated

Will it have a mobile version that doesn't suck?

😉

Initially that was the plan, but I recommended that we leave the same format in place, complete with incomplete blue bar/load issues, so we could keep you engaged.  Sorry bud.  :D

My anti-virus programs scan every pop up ad on this site and slows everything down.  It is one of the reasons I am rarely visiting this site.

It's not the pop-up adds (I have those blocked too), it's the embedded ones that are doing it, escpecially that NCAA March Madness one. I see they have killed some of them so it's a little better now but yea, I'm not visiting as much as I used to either. Bummer, cause I like this place.

Well, since my last post on this thread, I've had to replace my laptop's hard drive. Lucky me. Amazingly though, I'm no longer slow on this site. Everything is running very smoothly. I got an SSD hard drive which is supposed to be faster, but that shouldn't affect my internet browsing?

Just when I think I understand this stuff, something happens that I don't understand. lol

Your old drive had data fragmented where you new drive more likely doesn't so that will help. Probably something I should do is defrag my drive some time.

I also see less embedded ads and that has helped also. However I still see the browser spinning all the time si things are happening in the background. Just no where as bad as it was.
