This game makes me nervous!

It would not surprise me to see Cal put together one or two good drives and score. But it also would not surprise me if we shut them out.
Cal will put up some points and yards. They still have weapons on offense. The key is getting pressure and forcing a few turnovers. Cal's offense isn't what it was last year, but they are still one of the better offenses in the country.

With two up tempo teams there's also going to be a ton of possessions/plays.

Granted, I'm not sure Cal can stop anyone on defense.

Cal had the 2nd least efficient kickoff game in the country last year. They gave up 7 to SDSU on a kickoff return on Saturday.

We should be able to have success on kickoff and punt returns. Cal really struggles on kickoff and punt coverage.

It's going to be like playing Tech in Lubbock with Tech throwing a zillion passes. It is something to worry about.

Something about this game playing late at night and first away game of the season . This is the type of game that has the word TRAP all over it. The Cali fan base and team  will be fired up and I just worry that we will come out and not play flat on both sides of the ball. I think we should win this game by 10 points but I feel we will be lucky if we steal a victory a point or FG.  This game just seems like a perfect trap game for these young horns.
No such thing man, next week is a bye....They're not looking past Cal.

Pound the rock and pound their QB....

I am sorry but I just think this is going to be a game the team struggles through to win. Teams have a little more game film on the new offense and QB  so they can better plan.  I just want us to get home with a victory and few injuries.

struggles
i hope you are right.  my great impression is this staff likes struggles.  i think we see them stick a kid out there on game day who is well in over his head.  then just leave him there.  c'mon, kid, we need you to get it done.  help us win this game.  though i'm sure the staff knows we'll win any game we do that in.

it's one thing to put pressure on a kid in practice.  it's a whole, totally different thing to put him out there in front of 100,000 customers, including a fair chunk of his family and maybe some friends.  nobody wants to look the fool in front of those people, so if he has anything inside him that can make him a player, he'll find it.  if he does and there's something to build on . . . hey, we got us another player.

After the Iowa State game last year, I'm having a hard time taking any team for granted. Especially considering the injury situation on the OL and with D. Foreman. Will feel better if all injured players are indeed back and at 100% but am not convinced that will be the case.

Every game for a young team with high expectations is a trap game. We all wanted to see improvement before the season started. If we keep that goal this team will be in great shape. BTW. I watched a replay of the O press conference. I'm convinced Shane B is Benjamin Button. Nothing but his appearance makes me think he's a teenager.

IMO, you're giving that Call offense way too much credit. Yeah, they're throwing for 500 yards. But thats against a Hawaii and SDSU secondary (which got picks). Webb spends a lot of time running for his life – again, against Hawaii and SDSU defensive lines.

I'll say this, you can tell there are some parts in place that will make for a good offense at some point. But they're nowhere near that now.

We're Texas and they'll be fired up for us. It's their season opener and they'll want to have a good showing and sneak away with the win in front of the home crowd. A win against Texas could be a turning point for their season, too.

I see a sack fest coming. The sharks will smell blood in the first quarter. It will be carnage by the 4th.

On offense, Foreman will have more than 100 yards by halftime. This will be a great confidence game for Buechele.

For Texas, this is the first road game. Charlie started drilling the "don't read your own headlines" thing before UTEP. He's keeping them honest. And with a road game, it's a business-like approach anyway and there will be that "us against the world" feel in that stadium – something our team seems to feed off of.

Call me crazy, thats fine. I just think we'll sail through this one. If this were in Austin, I'd be more concerned.

I agree. We cannot afford to have a slow start. That will just fire up their crowd. If we just come out and take care of business, avoid dumb penalties we should win comfortably.
