Floyd Raven, one of the guys in the vehicle didn't play in the game although he wasn't officially suspended and was in trouble earlier this season. Your numbers are wrong on the undergraduates, we surpassed 40,000 in fall semester and there were 53,672 students (undergrad/grad/post-grad) as of September.

If my numbers are wrong, its because the university filed false disclosures with the federal government. The numbers you reported as of Aug 31, 201 were 36,103. They may be wrong. You guys have certainly been wrong before.

The whole jail incident was stupid of him, but it was one night and wasn't any worse or better than a drug charge (misdemeanors), he wouldn't have been nearly as villified by the university if those actions weren't consistent with his behavior from the second he had set foot on campus (he was nearly suspended for a full season). He did go to class, it just wasn't on a huge campus with people bothering him every step of the way (I saw it personally).

Again, my point exactly. The attitude is that as long as the arrests are misdemeanor arrests, they are entirely acceptable. Recruits get that this is how things are working under Sunlim. Few coaches ignore of accept their athletes being arrested. Sumlin can truthfully tell prospects that Manziel would have probably not won the Hesiman under almost any other coach. Under almost any coach other than Sumlin, Manziel would probably have been suspended at least one game. That would have affected his numbers and probably tipped the balance of the votes to T'eo.

And if you are correct and Manziel didn't take all online classes, he was being dishonest in his comments about that matter. Then again,maybe he used the wrong ID when he registered for classes and was signed up under a fake name.

(fyi-If we do accept your argument that TAMU increased undergraduate enrollment well over 10% between the summer and fall sessions, how is it that Manziel could deal with making it to class this fall, but last spring when there were thousands fewer on campus, it was out of the question? That only makes sense using aggy logic. Face it, he didn't go to class because he didn't want to and Sumlin wasn't about to insist on it. I stand by my point that making a very public announcement that TAMU has programs that allow student athletes to not have to attend classes for entire semesters is a HUGE recruiting advantage.)

Johnny Manziel has become the big man off campus.

 

The Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman winner said Monday night at the Davey O'Brien Award reception that all of his classes for this semester are online, though Texas A&M spokesman Brad Marquardt refused to confirm or deny Manziel's schedule in a phone call with USA TODAY Sports.

I'm not bashing aggy. You guys just get hypersensitive when people talk openly and honestly about your school and people involved with it. You guys are doing exactly what LSU is doing, which is not worrying about recruiting character risks and ignoring matters such as arrests and failed drug tests. And and save the comment every program has kids who smoke weed. The ags who have been arrested lately have been arrested for both weed and quantities non-script controlled substances, there is no doubt it is going on within the program and if Sumlin was handling the problem, the police wouldn't be making multiple arrests during the season.

Sumlin is incredibly smart. He is using every advantage to recruit that he can think of. It's just that not every school would let him run the program the way he is being allowed to run the one at aggy.

There are very few programs that suspend players for a game or more for a misdemeanor offense; Name me some consistent examples and I will certainly back down from that claim. The fact of the matter is that Manziel has had one brush with the law that resulted in one misdemeanor: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2013/07/15/manziel-pleaded-guilty-misdemeanor-charges-2012-arrest/2518037/. Let's not forget that he was only charged with three counts at the time, but only was deemed guilty of one. Suspending Manziel for a first-time offense of a charge that wasn't even taken care of in time for the season doesn't seem like an action that many schools or coaches would take. I didn't say Manziel didn't take online classes, this sentence doesn't even remotely imply that : "He did go to class, it just wasn't on a huge campus with people bothering him every step of the way". As for him attending class on campus in the fall and not in the spring: he won the Heisman in December so the next semester was a whirlwind of celebrity for him. The positive excitement on campus surrounding him died down after the whole signing incident and he was left alone much more after the Bama game. I'm just curious, is it illegal or immoral for him to take online classes, because it seems like every school should be able to do the same thing. You said Sumlin didn't try to argue with Johnny over the scheduling issue, since when has it been a coaches' responsibility to administer academic schedule counseling? Once again, your reasoning on the drug tests and arrests is wrong. We have suspended or kicked off more than a dozen players for drug-related offenses in the past year. None of these suspensions have been NCAA-mandated and are administered by the AD or HC. Sumlin can't watch these kids every step of the way, but he has suspended and kicked off players in his two year tenure at A&M so the whole idea that he is turning a blind eye to the issue is just simply false. As for the recruiting character risks: Deoundrei Davis, Derrick Roberson, and Zaycoven Henderson (he didn't decommit for attitude issues) all have had bigger red flags than any of our signees/commits in the last two years. We have kicked off 3 commits: Hoza Scott, Derrick Griffin(academic), Jamar Gibson for these issues over the years. Only player that even had known question marks at the high school level was Isaiah Golden.

Seriously everything you have posted is spin to try to paint this bullshit picture of immoral, uncontrollable aggy and it is exactly that: bullshit. Both programs seem fairly clean to me, but I guess one can't exist without the other bashing it.

What's wrong with this kid!?!? That's not just morally and ethically wrong, but jail time. The more this kid says and does the more disturbed I am. Someone needs to reach out to him give him some guidance-- not about football, but everything outside of that.

I must admit that I have not watched an aggie football game nor will I watch another aggie sports team since that cried to SEC that big brother Texas has a bigger piece of candy than they do. My friends y'all have a great week.

The last aggy game I watched was in 2011 and it ended in a 27-25 TEXAS victory AT Kyle Field. That made TEXAS 10-4 over aggy under Mack Brown. The series all-time was 76-37-5 in Texas' favor. Since then, aggy has gone on to greener pastures and finished 3rd in the SEC west and 4th in the SEC west WITH Johnny Football. While Mack was the coach at TEXAS, aggy had FOUR different head coaches. Despite winning 158 games, having a national championship, a Heisman trophy, 3-1 in BCS bowls since Jan 2005, 9-5 bowl record and SEVEN top 10 finishes, the recent years forced TEXAS' hand and thus a new coach.

I understand the argument you are making with those numbers. The numbers are from press releases issued by the university. I treat a lot of what is put out by the school for image purpose as questionable from the start. Numerous times on this site, I have dealt with claims made by TAMU officials that has proven to be more than false. TAMU has never hesitated to to create an image of itself that is largely false. Small things like fraudulent national championships are really no big deal. (FYI - There have been 11 times in history where Texas has finished ranked first in a national end-of-year poll where Texas not claimed a national championship, many of which have far greater credibility than the two new ones aggy added because the were "forgotten about by earlier generations.") In fact I put together a rather detailed piece explaining how the school's most cherished tradition is is based pretty much on a lie. My original point in this thread is that if Henderson is into dog fighting, or anything else illegal, he is FAR off being at TAMU than to Texas. Sumlin's treatment of Manziel unequivocally proves that at least a certain class of athletes at TAMU will not be suspended from the field for getting into trouble with the police. A good counter example at Texas is where Hicks and McCoy were suspended before the 2012 Alamo Bowl even though they were never arrested and never charged with criminal activity. (And please, don't try claiming that Manziel only has been arrested once. He was (allegedly) busted for possession in high school and, even those purportedly being a son of fabulous and unending wealth, there was the shoplifting incident at the Kerrville Walmart, both being part of why Mack considered him a character risk and didn't offer his a scholarship.)

As for Manziel not having to show up on campus to take classes, I never said it was immoral or illegal. Claims of illegality of immorality are merely strawmen you have created. My point was that not every school makes it clear to athletes that they can take entire semesters off from having to show up in a classroom. The fact that TAMU allows this is a HUGE advantage for recruiting athletes. Sumlin can unequivocally tell recruits that under almost any other coach, Manziel would never would have won the Heisman and that recruits can count on Sumlin treating them just the same way he treated Manziel. He can also point out that TAMU has developed a scheme where attendance in classrooms isn't expected under certain structures. Both statements are absolutely true. What 17 or 18 year kid isn't gong to say "WOW!" to those facts? Sumlin is using every tactic available to him to recruit and he is doing well at it. I'm just saying Texas doesn't offer those same advantages to its football coach. Nor do a lot of other schools.

As for Sumlin's looking the other way at certain activities in order to keep his kids on the field, I think you are naive if you don't think Kenneth Marshall and Darrien Claiborne weren't smoking weed and abusing off-prescription controlled substances prior to be to their recent arrests. No one is asking Sumlin to watch the kids every day. However, TAMU shows they have 14 full and part time football coaches to monitor 128 players. With 9 kids per coach, one would think a pattern of behavior ongoing off-script controlled substance abuse within the program would come to someone's attention. That is, assuming someone didn't find out and simply chose not to worry about it.

Believe what you want, but I'm not one to bash aggy at every turn. Just this week, someone wrote me about crap they believed was going on within the aggy program and I dismissed it right away. However, I'm certainly not one to believe the crap that comes out of college station. Tamu recruits directly against LSU for the same East Texas/Louisiana, redneck/coonass type individual. LSU unquestionably doesn't care about discilane issues are failed drug testa. Both theyr starting QB and star RB have sexual assault convictions. Their RB was voted back on the team after his assault/probation violations this summer. We all know about Tyrann Matthieu and his admissions of failing multiple drug tests. Saying that doesn't go on in college football is absurd. I'm just saying it goes on at certain schools far more than others and that tamu has also added the recruiting incentive of being able to tell kids they also can take extended time away from the classroom. David Shaw doesn't start a season with one of every 8 scholarship players ineligible to play, have multiple serious drug of hi star players or have kids not showing up in the classroom for entire semesters. Some of the ags have started trashing Charlie Strong, calling his Florida recruits "thugs." Well, those "thugs" weren't getting arrested for multiple drug offenses.
