Manziel got thrown in jail for helping Nate beat a man who objected to being called n---ger, lied to police about his identity and Sumlin didn't even sit him down for one play. They have has a half dozen or so players arrested for drug possession and you think they aren't ignoring failed drug tests?

Unless Henderson gets caught with the same evidence Michael Vick did, there won't be anyone over in farmland who gives a crap about a 4* D-lineman who is into dogfigting. They would let his dog fight Reveille if it would get them more wins.

As much as I'd like to think this is great for us and terrible for them, I can't quite convince myself. Yes he's a bit of an idiot who committed to a school he didn't even visit and he either has catch dogs or was present at a dog fight - but based on the evidence, I'd still rather have him. We're not recruiting for finishing school and as much as we don't want a program overrun with reprobates, part of the process is turning young idiots into a winning team and into men.

The video definitely isn't good for him, but let's not kid ourselves that we'd all be calling for his offer to be immediately pulled if he was still a Texas commit.

Lol. Seriously, though. Kenneth Marshall gets arrested in November not only for possession of weed, but for a stash of 50 Welbutrin for which he didn't have a prescription. Caliborne gets arrested in Dec for possession of week and some controlled substance. These kids aren't just smoking a little weed. Every kid with weed also gets nailed with non-script meds. There is some partying going on over there and no one fails any drug tests? Um.... sure.

Sumlin knows what's going on. He just isn't going to worry about what the kids are doing as long as he isn't forced to and when Hyman tried to force the issue this season when 10% of his scholarship players were unable to set foot on the field to start the season, Sumlin pushed back and Hyman almost lost his job. And anyone thinks Sumlin is going to give a crap about dog fighting? Ha! Manziel didn't have to set foot on campus during the entire spring semester last year. How many aggy players do you think are going to also take 100% on-line classes this spring? Not having to worry about getting caught smoking weed or getting suspended for getting arrested and not having to go to classes are HUGE attractions for kids that have no interest in a college education, but want to play football. Its a recruiting advantage that Sumlin is absolutely exploiting. He would be an idiot not to. Tom Osborne did the exact same thing at Nebraska. The school was in a godforsaken sh!thole of a town. he needed an advantage, so he got the school to not care when he pulled in the provisional enrollees, gave them creampuff classes to get them past the first semester grade requirement and looked the other way when they got into trouble. Does anyone remember when he insisted Lawrence Phillips had to remain on the team because "he needed the structure and discipline" after he beat the crap out of his girlfriend?

If you want to talk about the double standard with Sumlin's treatment of players failing drug tests then you have a valid argument. We have kicked off 5 kids since last year for the stuff. However, those 5 players likely weren't going to play, the ones that were given second/third chances were starters. Your issue with Johnny having online classes is dumb, the guy couldn't go to class without getting swarmed by students. As for Henderson, he isn't even that good. I think the only reason Sumlin took him was to send a statement because we never even pursued him. Of course, his status as an early enrollee was a major positive for him.

Why is it that every other college football player, including Heisman trophy winners, can go to class on their respective campus and Johnny can't in Colleville?

Believe me, if you were on campus at the time you would understand why he did it. He probably did get special treatment given he is in Mays Business School and I can't see them having 3-4 available online classes in one semester, so there was some workaround, whether it be him taking only electives or having professors recording their sessions.

The statement your coach would be sending is that he is an idiot. If Sumlin didn't think he was good he should have steered him elsewhere. You don't take a player for no other reason than to show up a rival coach whose been on the job for 72 hours

He reminds me of Rod Davis, a head to head win I was excited about that never gave us meaningful snaps.

What's wrong with this kid!?!? That's not just morally and ethically wrong, but jail time. The more this kid says and does the more disturbed I am. Someone needs to reach out to him give him some guidance-- not about football, but everything outside of that.

First of all, TAMU College Station has around 36,000 undergrads (as of Sept 1, 2013). Secondly, he didn't go to classes because he didn't want to. Remember the videos of him on the beach in San Diego? Telling players you don't get disciplined for getting thrown in jail and you can sit on the beach in So. Cal instead of rotting in College Station is another stroke of genius. The argument that he was such a God-like deity that he couldn't go to class is crap. If he can to frat parties at UT, binge drinking with Uncle Nate and gambling at the casinos, he can go to class.

Oh, and I guarantee you Darrien Claiborne doesn't get kicked off the team or even sat for a single down. Whether he gets to spend the spring on the beach in Southern California, I have no clue.

Darian Claiborne has already sat for the bowl game buddy. Floyd Raven, one of the guys in the vehicle didn't play in the game although he wasn't officially suspended and was in trouble earlier this season. Your numbers are wrong on the undergraduates, we surpassed 40,000 in fall semester and there were 53,672 students (undergrad/grad/post-grad) as of September. All of these numbers are pure semantics though. You are misrepresenting events: Johnny's San Diego experience was in May once classes would officially be out. Also, that trip included his sessions with George Whitfield. The whole jail incident was stupid of him, but it was one night and wasn't any worse or better than a drug charge (misdemeanors), he wouldn't have been nearly as villified by the university if those actions weren't consistent with his behavior from the second he had set foot on campus (he was nearly suspended for a full season). He did go to class, it just wasn't on a huge campus with people bothering him every step of the way (I saw it personally). Do you have anything useful to say that doesn't trash A&M every step of the way. My buddy (drgilbert) told me the people on this forum were cool and not vitriolic like all of the other sites I have visited in the past, I'm starting to doubt that. Back to the topic on hand, I believe our staff offered to take the only DT in your class away as well as to build depth (got to build up your trenches). This isn't an uncommon theme, Mack Brown took or recruited every decent DL in the state for years despite not needing them to wound the in-state enemy (Tevin Mims, DeAires Cotton, Brandon Alexander (we won that battle)). It may be an unpopular sentiment, but is the best explanation given that I can infer given that we didn't even offer the kid up until now. We lost out on the only other DT we are recruiting other than the one commit Washington in November and have had only one kid lost due to attrition at the position (Jordan Points for drugs) and he wasn't considered a contributor anyways.
