The Unthinkable - Olympics

Terrorists are openly talking about targeting Sochi for the coming Olympic games. Putin and Russia in general tend to over react to terror threats, but even that may not be enough to prevent a terror attack.

So what does the US do if such an attack occurs? How do we get our Olympic team out? Will such an attack stop the Olympics from happening again?

I remember well the attack in Munich on the Israeli team. It spoiled what was otherwise an outstanding olympiad. But I keep thinking today's terror attack will focus on death and destruction whereas that one was focused on obtaining something in exchange for something.

I love the olympics and fear what becomes of them if the unthinkable happens in Russia.

Russia is usually very good at this stuff, but I think we're going to see that Russia and the US and likely China end up working together. That might be a good thing.

After years of secret police terror Russia is getting back at what they have handed out to thousands over the years and in some cases still do. I don't buy into the case that Russia is a changed country after growing up in a world that showed that Russia wanted to end the United States. Russia tends to use the Olympic Games as a place to show the power of comminsum not a place that all the world can come togather and learn from each other. But the Olympic Games is not the place to make a statement. My friends y'all have a great week

If you're a country sending athletes to the olympics and are fearful for your athletes safety, the more reason to ban together and wipe out terrorism for good. All countries participating in the olympics should be on a united front. It's sad when you can't even get together in the good spirit of competition without fearing for your lives.

Despite all their problems, Russia is a country that has just as much a problem with the "religion of peace" as we do. Hell, they might even work harder to snuff out the problem, even though it might not always be the most PC move.

As far as getting out people out if it hits the fan, the US Navy has moved at least two ships into the Black Sea in order to provide security or evacuation support to the Russians or US Olympic Team.

US already positioning ships, C17, and rapid reaction force for extraction from Sochi if the unthinkable happens. The "black widow" referred to above might already be inside the perimeter; they're hunting her, but its quite likely that there will be others that try to penetrate security. The aforementioned widow is from Dagestan, the same region that the 2 Boston idiots came from.
