The Top 4 Candidates

I guess i am a little confused on saban. What is left to talk about? I understand how to announce, when, etc. But if we were as close as it was reported, the details should be pretty well nailed down i would think. Either he still wants to come or he doesnt. Is it browns role?

Nick Saban Jim Harbaugh

Jimbo Fisher

John Harbaugh

Kinda hope it isn't Fisher either. Harbaughs or Saban would be the top 3 of that list IMO. I'd have Malzahn ahead of Fisher.

I imagine now that there is a vacancy, "legal" and formal negotiations can happen.

Love the list...and hoping the list is in order of preference and we get #1 or #2. I'll wait this thing out and see what happens. If Patterson is able to get Saban or Jim Harbaugh, then in my view, he will already have done more for Texas Football than Dodds did in his 35 years (and I do think Dodds did alot of good things)!!!

I'm sure the Harbaugh's or more likely their agents are talking to us but I just don't see either happening especially Jim. I still think he's just using us for leverage to get what he wants from SF. However, John may be a different story because I believe he got an extension and a raise to about $7M after the SB so maybe he does have genuine interest.

Love the list. I think those are the best four candidates out there.

You have three guys who have BUILT programs. Malzahn is a solid choice, but he hasn't shown he can build a program and sustain success like the other three have. The one guy who hasn't built anything is John, but I'm less worried about that because he has a pretty good resource in his brother to talk to and work things out.

My order:

Jim Harbaugh

Nick Saban

John Harbaugh

Jimbo Fisher

But to be honest if we landed ANY of them I feel like it would be an absolute bottom of the 9th, 7th game of the World Series, down three, walk off grand slam of a hire.

I like the list. Wish Meyer was on it.
Meyer is slime. I'm thrilled to hear what McPhaul said about how his time at UF soured us on him. I was hoping that would come out quickly in the vetting process, and it looks like it has.

Great to know Patterson isn't settling. Any of those four would be a game-changing hire. I like that Saban is back in it, merely because it gives us an A-list candidate we already know was realistic. Would love to see us take our stab at Jim Harbaugh, and depending on how realistic that looks, move back on to Saban.

I'd be happy with any of those - or Malzahn or Briles or Gruden.

But please not Meyer or Strong or Mora or Franklin.

I have to tell you, I do not believe the next coach will last more than 5 years here and maybe even less than that.

From a pure $ standpoint, Fisher would be the safest bet.

FSU only upped him to $4.1/mil/yr in the current extension.

We would have to pay him in the Saban range probably, but that currently = what John Harbaugh makes at Baltimore. And I'm just not sold that Capt. Comeback would come back to college right now.

So my odds-on favorite is Jimbo.

But save your $ for Super Bowl prop bets, because I've got nothing on Danny Sheridan and those other oddsmakers.....

Nick Saban Jim Harbaugh

Jimbo Fisher

John Harbaugh
I'd be very happy with any of these four, but have to say Jimbo Fisher may be the best fit for Texas. Folksy charm, good coach, and a great recruiter. What's not to like about him?

He followed the FSU legend, Bobby Bowden, so he knows what that pressure is like. I also believe that Jimbo would settle into the role and have more longevity than the other candidates. I don't see him ever getting the "NFL itch".

Great fit for UT \m/
