The State of the Program

swaha, that doesn't surprise me.

tejasruiz, I am obsessed with Texas football.  It's probably unnatural for a woman, but I do love it.  I think Strong gave Watson a job to do.  Watson said he could do it, and Strong gave him a chance.  Watson didn't deliver.  I may be wrong, but I think we will see additional changes.

Hook 'em!
Java,  I would imagine the Burnt Ends report will really heat up over the next few weeks.  I have never been a Watson fan.  He built his reputation on Bridgewater and Bridgewater would make any offensive coordinator look good.

Java, I hope you are right. That offensive scheme that I have been seeing from Watson absolutely stinks. Now Swoopes is just not a Division I quarterback, but it would be very difficult for any quarterback to succeed with the offense we have in place.

We need to develop a new offense that can take advantage of what few strengths we have, then let the best players play.

Bry-Man, I hope so.  I want Strong to be successful at Texas.  In my opinion, he is one offensive coordinator short of doing so.  I, too, was slow at passing judgement; however what I saw last night convinced me.

Watson didn't make changes.  He said he did, and they may have looked like changes on the surface.  What a crock!  If water freezes at 32 degrees, it freezes at 32 degrees.  If Ty freezes during games, he freezes during games.  Once a given, always a given.  Accept it, and move on.  To run a spread, you need a spread qb.  Ty wasn't a spread qb in high school.  I don't remember his passing numbers, but they weren't very good.  How can you be a spread qb, if you don't throw the fb?

Logic, it's a b*%$*!

Mr. Cherry,

Surely, the zone read could be installed with ease.  Wick knows the zone read.  Norvell knows the zone read.  If Vince is still working on campus, he knows the ZR, probably better than anyone, from a qb's perspective.  For goodness sake, how long would it take to install it?  A couple of weeks?

Watson can run the scout team for all I care.  I'm ticked.

Hook 'em!

Never thought I'd say bring back Greg Davis, but Watson is bad and we need someone who can fix this mess......ANYBODY...

We DO NEED to bring back Greg Robinson...Our defense is not sound..They are merely being PHYSICAL getting burned, giving up containment, getting out smarted...No better than Manny Diaz' defense right now. Stood in Notre Dame Stadium and watch the Horns get embarrassed on National TV once again. SMH....

It just shows that your an intelligent woman. :)

Put Traylor in charge of Heard's development, or if he isn't a qb coach bring in Kevin Murray to develop Heard, as a consultant, if need be.

Speaking of Traylor, rumor is he is not happy with the way things are being done.

Funny you mention him. I was thinking last night I would not be upset if Charlie fired Watson and stuck Traylor in that spot, even if only an interim basis.

Traylor is an offensive genius. If you saw what he did in Gilmer, that O was unstoppable. This year, despite being loaded, teams are staying with Gilmer. Even Pine Tree made Gilmer look human last week. That's the absence of Traylor, nothing more.

Traylor is the guy on the staff I would want running the offense. Strong probably this scenario in mind when he hired him.

You have two other guys on that staff who have called plays elsewhere. Wickline and Norvell. If he did go to Traylor, I wonder how that would fly with them.

I just hope Strong makes the right decision and demotes/let's watson go. If not then he's a dumb ass.

I would have no complaints of Traylor calling the plays.  The guy knows football and knows how to get the ball to the playmakers. Look what he did last year with Gilmer.  The Carter kid was an average to slightly above average HS QB but Traylor put him in position to get the ball to Boyd and Lynch.

We still don't know how involved Wickline is with the offense at this point except that he's officially the OC.

Not worried about Norvell we got a hunch as to why he was fired at OU.

Texas has become the softest program in college sports. No wonder we are failing miserably.

Why do we care? Is this really the time we avoid making the hard decisions concerning he program that need to be made because they might hurt the feelings of the assistant coaches?

If Norvell or Wickline want to pout because they got passed over, then kick them off university property and instruct them never to show their faces on campus again. Any coach who would put his own intersts before the best interests of the program needs to be run off now. The whole reason the program is in this position to being with is Coach Strong's misguided loyalty toward Watson and Stong's willingness to subordinate the interests of the players and the program to the interests of Shawn Watson's career.

I share your thoughts.  Screw'em if they put themselves over the best interest of the program.

I have never figured out the whole Wickline deal.  Not sure what all he is responsible for, but his focus should be on offensive linemen only.

Texas needs an OC that knows Texas HS football and understands the systems as well as the schemes that these high schools are running every year.  Look at the 7 on 7 programs that happen every year throughout the state.  Traylor, Morris, and Herman are coaches that get this.  I know some people on this board criticize Briles and Patterson, but they seem to have no problem understanding what offensive scheme works best for Texas high school athletes.

Wickline's OC title looks like a loophole at this point, and boy do I wish Herman came to Texas last year.

I just want Strong to stop delaying the inevitable and hand the keys to Traylor. Make him and Wickline Co-Oc's

I mean is Charlie Strong going to choose Shawn Watson or the University of Texas football program ? Because that's what it's come down to.

I don't get the feeling Wickline cares about calling plays and he has enough on his mind.  Norvell just got fired and he started the same time as Traylor.
