The State of the Program

1) It's in ND's best interest to make Texas look as bad as possible.

2) Strong doesn't need to watch Swoopes, it took about 3 series for me to see it was the same qb we had last year. You?

3) The defense? I'm certain Strong was interested. Simple changes can be made there that will make a big difference. I saw several routes we should have jumped. ND was begging for it, asking for it. Last year Haines would have made the play, but this year for some reason he couldn't. Strong can fix that really quick. That's 6.

4) The point they were asking him about, he had probably already decided what he was going to do. If it were my team, I would have made the decision when Heard made the positive yardage immediately.

(Honestly, I probably would have done it during Spring ball, but Strong makes the big bucks.)
How about Java for HC, or at least OC.

Football mind, great ethics, ability to identify problem and come up with solution... what do y'all think?

You busy next year, Java?

They were probably frustrated because Tyrone cannot get the ball to them.  How many touches did Gray get?  Foreman?  Tyrone kept the ball, which is what he did in high school.  It's the same story.  Go read about it.

Now that would be fun!  Could all of you be my assistants, and we could run the team by committee?

Once Heard took himself out, I thought let Swoopes clean up his own mess.  I want a week's prep with Heard going in starting and someone else's game plan.  Traylor - fine.  Give Heard a chance.  Don't have him run the same plays Watson was calling.  Forget it, or we will see the same mess.  It does make some sense.

Ok, I am trying to recover from surgery.  Can't keep trying to make the same point.  Going to take a break.

Breathe.

Hook 'em!
Java, you say that Heard took himself out. What exactly do you mean by this?

He got the wind knocked out of him, at least that's the way it looked.  Was holding his gut, trotted to the sideline. Tyrone went back in and more futility.  Anyone else see more of it?  I was watching at a friends (an Ags).  They had the Aggie game on the big TV.  I was watching the UT game in the bedroom on a smaller digital.

My SIL said that Heard may have bruised ribs, don't know.  Guess we will find out.

The Rice game is going to be an interesting spectacle. The number of empty seats is going to be really interesting. We have heard about the crappy season ticket renewals, but that issue will be amplified by the number of apathy-driven no-shows. The general attitude of the fans is going to be subdued at best because if we beat Rice no one cares and if we lose, they may lynch Patterson at midfield. I wouldn't be surprised to see 20,000 empty seats. By the way, I have two tickets to give away if anyone wants to save $5nsince $5 is about all the scalpers will be getting for s pair of tickets to the game.

I think the energy level will be low, the empty seats will be numerous and and I hope the heat starts getting ratcheted up on Patterson afterwards. If Cal comes in and hangs 60 on Texas and wins by 5 touchdowns, the real fun will begin.

The current state of the program is Holy *&^%*%^ $%^# God @#$! What is going on.
One of Charlie's big problems is no coordinator with employment options would want to put up with Steve Patterson as their boss. Based on Wickline's treatment, they will know they will never be treated with respect. It is no secret that Patterson is starving the program for financial resources. As long as Steve-O is running the show, UT will not be a desired place for coaches to work.

I still am surprised Shaka took the job.

Patterson is an asshat but I doubt it affects assistant coaching hires.

Eh. I don't agree with the way Patterson handles business. But I would work for a questionable CEO if it means I'll have a top ten salary in the nation for my position. And I'll have a glorified company on my resume. I don't think Patterson hinders us from getting solid assistant coaches if Strong decides to get one.

Wait till Wickline gets the bill for his buyout and from his atty. Patterson isn't paying top 10 salaries (UT pays about 15% below OU for assistant coach salaries). UT trails a number of schools in its asst coach salary pool. The quality control salaries, nickle and some crap with meals, etc will have their effect.

All those stupid policies will cost UT in the long run. We will see if Strong manages to attract a quality OC. He sure whiffed on his first attempt and I don't see Patterson opening up the checkbook.

Randy, you are better than that.  You want to compare Wickline's salary to a QC salary?

That's funny.

Hey, at least they're keeping us safe by making us stay in the stadium during the game!

I guess we'll see if Charlie is willing to make changes when they're needed.

To me it's not just one game. After all the talk, spring ball, summer workouts, and fall practice I couldn't see a lick of progress from the Texas bowl. Or TCU. We're not remotely competitive with good teams right now.
All the positive talk and all the bs from spring ball to just before this game started was just that... BS. Didnt look like there was 1 change made and Swoopes even said that in an interview.

I was in the stands last night, and it looked really bad in person. Caveat, I'm not a football coach, and don't claim to be. I do wonder, (for some of you that have been/are coaches, or those on pain meds... ;) ) did Swoopes not keep on the read play almost every time last night, regardless of the position of the end? It certainly appeared that way from where I sat.
Swoopes had no interest in throwing the ball last night, under no circumstances did he want to throw the football and when he did it was ugly. The WR's shouldn't have even suited up.

Keep fabricating things I never said. Its entertaining. I also didn't compare Wickline's salary to the cost of a coach's meal. Matter of fact, I never even mentioned Wickline's salary. I mentioned his buyout that is the subject of litigation.
And if you think any high level coordinator with other options would consider working for Patterson, image for a moment if one of Jimmy Sexton's clients were contacted about coming to UT. Does anyone really think Sexton and Patterson would be able to put a deal together? Sexton wouldn't let one of his clients work for Patterson and Sexton and Patterson have known each other for decades. (All apologies to those who still.believe Saban was coming to Texas)

first of all I want CS to succeed but now for the ugly

Someone explain to me why a coach is being paid 5 million a year currently top 5 salaries and not have a clue about how the offense is doing. That's just a piss poor excuse. I have blamed Swoopes most of the last year, and caught a lot of grief for it at times. Then I started to question Watsons ability to coach up qb and play call. Caught some grief for that as well. Personally I think it's both here as well as the line. Now here goes the bomb. CS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TEAM. I'm tired of the excuses for every god damn blowout and the constant BS about improving. Someone show me proof of improvement. Granted ND is a good team, but shit are we all going to forgive if we blowout the hapless owls? I BET SOME U.S. DO

I want strong to succeed but FFS FIRE THAT INCOMPETITENT POS WATSON. HIRE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND CAN RECRUIT TALENT.

THIS BS OF BEING COMPETITVE WITH SHIT SCHOOLS LIKE RICE IS UTTER CRAP PEOPLE

OTHER SCHOOLS BRING IN NEW COACHES AND LOOK BETTER THEIR FIRST GAME THAN THIS SHIT SHOW WE HAVE

IM DONE WITH CORE VALUES HOOPLA. STRONG BE A GOD DAMN COACH AND DO YOUR FKN JOB. FIRE WATSON. PLAY THE FKN FRESHMAN THEN MAYBE JUST MAYBE WE CAN TOLERATE ANOTHER YEAR OF THIS CRAP

OMFG I SOUND LIKE A RANDOLPH DUKE ON STEROIDS

Holton Hill, Kris Boyd, Hager MLB, MJ OLB, Newsome, Burt, Wheeler, and most importantly HEARD. what the hell is the problem with preparing for the future. I mean didn't we waste last year on Swoopes to save Heards RS. What is the excuse now. I would rather watch Boyd get some experience and get beat a lot than watch Duke or Dylan or Bonney get violated over and over. I'm afraid we are becoming too content with bad. Even CS looked more beat down than pissed in post game.

and the next time I hear that pos fraud Watson say we are making progress Ill pay any reporter to club that asshat with their mic

One thing that frustrates me about the offensive playcalls is the focus on moving the ball east and west as opposed to north and south. I thought this was why Greg Davis ended up getting fired. Too many side to side screens and Jet-Sweeps, not enough north and south focus.

Recorded the game and watched the 1st half....a few things I saw where we can improve.

Establish a running game..zone blocking and power are a good way to get a run game going. Play action with naked's, waggles, sprint outs, seem to be a quick fix to pass pro problems, plus the are fairly easy plays to help build QB confidence. Throwing vertically vs single high is an answer with 4 verts..

VS - Two high - smash, corners, drive concepts, follow concepts  usually have good success..Man - shallow concepts, mesh concepts, digs, posts, double moves have a high rate of success... these are area we can improve on and I'm sure the coaches know all this. However, all of this depends on the following questions. See below.

A few questions: How much can your QB handle, (any of your QB's)...are they high rep learners or low rep learners? How does your game plan fit with what you are asking of your kids? Can they do what you are asking of them? Have you self scouted on practice film to see from where you have the most levels of success? what can you do as a coach to help your kids reach their highest levels of success? what do the do well? what do that do not so well? Does every position have real competition? How can you promote competition during practice? Do practice reps with success count toward playing time, or do you allow your kids to just go through the reps with no consequences? As a coach, can you create the most competitive environment where the kids understand how important each rep really is? How hungry is each kid at each position?

I'm sure these answers can be provided by many..I just threw out a few things I saw from where and how we can improve....Oh well, Hook'em
