The Official Big 12 Media Day Thread

When Rhoades was asked how shocking it would be for Iowa State to win the Big 12: "Words cannot explain." This is our deepest football team. Our starting 22 guys are our the best group we have had. Definitely the most talented.

Bill Snyder taking the podium.

First Question: How difficult would it be to coach without scholarships available (Penn State related question)?

Snyder: We are not here to talk about that.

Good for him..Football time..

On his thoughts on the conference now:

I think we have a stable conference with quality universities and talented football programs. Also look at the 2 incoming programs ... They are ranked in the top 10 or 12 nationally. The national perspective is that this is a great league.

When asked about Collin Klein:

Believe it or not it is not my Modus Operandi to place expectations on guys with respect to a performance level. He is a tremendous young man and is a great family man. He works hard every day to try and improve his skills.

Texas Tech's Tommy Tuberville on in 5 minutes...

Catch Coach Tuberville's Q&A Session below:

Note: TTU has had 4 Defensive Coordinators in 4 years....

Tuberville: Most of the guys that played with us last year are back. Our coaches are experienced and our new DC knows how to run a good defense. Our defense is where we are lacking. Seth Doege had a big win in Norman last year. We lost a running back and that hurt. Things spiraled after that.

Tuberville: Things look different in the Big 12 now. This is a points league. We scored almost 40 points in every game last year and we won 5 games. With TCU and West Virginia coming in, and with Texas having a revamped offense, this is a tough league.

Tuberville - We knew we had to build our depth and talent up. We needed to be 3 deep at every position. We didn't have the depth in numbers. We are almost there. We are talented offensively. Last year against OU we played over our heads. For us to go to another level it will not be on offense - it will have to be on defense.

Tubbs - We had some guys with some off the field trouble. The system ran its course. These folks are in limbo right now. You are going to have some off the field issues, that's just how it always is.

Tubbs - Defensive linemen are the hardest players to find. You have to project what players are going to be when you sign them. Then you have to put weight on them. There are very few true DL's that come straight out of high school.

On Alex Torres: Alex Torres still has a little limp in his run right now and will probably not be at 100% when the season starts. He is catching and making good cuts... We had 8 knee surgeries last year.

We are making good progress at TTU. We are recruiting better. Your coaches have to be good salesmen. We have guys on our team from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh. You MUST go nationwide to recruit well and reap the benefits.

We are not there yet, but we are much closer than we were 3 years ago (on the program's success).

I think it was a great first day. Patterson has that swagger that is contagious. Enough coachspeak in there to keep it normal. Not at all shocking at Snyder. That's an old boy's club and you do t talk bad about a coach.

Basically what he is saying folks is you have recruit EVERYONE when you are Texas Tech and hope you get enough to compete.

Great first day coverage Bbdude. Today was a great day for HornSports.com and it's coverage of 2 major events going on. Major props boys.

I love Coach Patterson and as a coach I am a huge fan of what he does and believes in. I loved Stoops answer to the PSU question, nuff said there. Bill Snyder is Bill Snyder, snarky old man who can flat coach. I love Paul Rhoads, great hire for ISU and will do great things there in the long term if they give him the support. I think Tubberville is not a good coach. 4 DC's in 4 years tells me all I need to know. He is a micromanager and when you aren't in the SEC and recruit because you are Auburn, you find out just he avg a coach is. Look at Chizik. ISU= terrible, Auburn= National Title, it makes a difference.

Mack takes the stage at 10:30 am this morning. Coming up in a minute will be Walt Anderson... He is on now discussing the new rules changes in the Big 12.
