I am taking nothing away from the SEC teams of the past but this season's Southeastern Conference is having a down year. So how do they have so many ranked teams? I believe it is because they play each other.
Southeastern Conference
East Division:
Florida..Have played no non-SEC ranked teams but the # 6 ranked Gators had trouble beating Bowling Green 27-14 and had to block a punt to avoid over time against Louisiana-Lafayette 27-20. The finally play a non-SEC ranked team the last week of the season when they play # 10 Florida State.
Georgia..No games against non-SEC ranked teams. Only played two ranked teams and lost to #9 ranked S Carolina 35-7.
Kentucky..SEC speed bump with 1-8 record.
Missouri..5-5 but no games against non-SEC ranked teams.
lSouth Carolina..Drummed Georgia but no games against non Sec ranked teams.
Tennessee..4-6 record on the year and was actually ranked in the top 20 at the beginning of the year. No games played against non SEC ranked teams.
Vanderbilt..6-4 on the season with no games against non SEC ranked teams.
West Division
Alabama..The poster child of the case for the SEC doing nothing and being ranked. Before they struggled agains Florida and lost to ATM, this team played a bunch of dogs. They were undefeated by beating Mich, W Kent, Ark, Fla Atlanti, Mizzou, Tenn and Miss St. There are 5 teams in the Big 12 that would have been undefeated with that group.
Arkansas..The over rated darling of the country is Arkansas who started the year ranked #10 until they lost to power house Louisiana-Monroe. This should have sent off warning bells but it didn't matter.
Auburn..2-8 dog of a team but they actually played one non-ranked SEC team. Clemson
LSU..8-2 and another team with no games against ranked non SEC teams. This is one of the teams that SEC thinks can beat ND, KST and Oregon. Really? They struggled to beat Auburn 12-10 and beat Towson St 38-22..
Mississipi[/b..The Rebels played one non ranked SEC team and Texas put 66 points on them at their house. ATM got some late magic from Johnny Football to pull out a 30-27 win.
Mississippi St..The Bulldogs actually went from unranked to #12 without playing any ranked team. Proving again how biased the polls are toward the SEC they earned their ranking by beating Jackson St, Auburn, Troy, S Alabama, Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. Worse is they are still ranked despite losing three games in a row. These rankings matter because it pushes up the SEC power numbers. No games against non SEC ranked teams.
Texas A and M..Which brings us to the #8 ranked Aggies. The school is alive with confidence but they struggled to beat Miss 30-27. Yes the same Miss that Texas beat 66-31. The just flat ass got lucky to beat La Tech 59-57 and like most of the other teams in the SEC played no games against non SEC ranked teams.
We have an entire conference that has played 2 games combined against Ranked Non SEC teams. We see how rankings have paved the way to the entire conference being over rated this season. Arkansas at #10, Tennessee at #20 and Miss St still ranked at #21 are total dogs yet their rankings give power rankings to the conference and effect the polls.
It's like the polls start with every team in the SEC ranked and go from there.
