The Landscape Thread - March edition!

Here's (from left) Darrell McPhaul, Aaron Carrara, and myself outside Aaron's place today.

So who are these guys? Don't look familiar to me.

The guys I was with today, well one had a grass stained, shredded old t-shirt and cargo shorts on. Flip Flops too. Another guy had a Members Only jacket with Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans. The third guy, when he finally showed, had on a jacket only Craig Sager would be proud of.

Those guys.... don't know em.

You lost me at the flip flops. Much too chilly for that today!

Sirhornsalot,

The Mexican White Oak I asked about earlier in the year has fully recovered from the cold and is in great shape.  It's about 3 yrs old and probably 25' high.  I've never trimmed limbs on this tree.  I think it's time to trim the lower limbs that are too low to the ground.   You think it's ok to trim some of the lower limbs now?

Popdaddy, great to hear the good news about your Mexican White Oak (aka "Monterrey Oak").

However, I would advise against trimming on the tree at all until after July 1.

The rule of thumb with all Oaks is to not trim them from March through June due to the risk of Oak Wilt. After that, it's fine but I might be inclined to wait until September just so the tree isn't adapting to the increased sun around it's base in the middle of the hot part of the summer.

Again, love to hear about these trees coming back. We've had to replace so many so far this spring due to that crazy early December ice storm we had here.

Sirhornsalot, thanks for all the great information.  Can we get an April thread started so we know what to do this month? I have a lot of weeds & any suggestions for getting rid of them and prepping my yard for summer would be much appreciated.

Oldmanriver - you betcha. Would already have one done by now but for a crazy crazy week. I'm working on the April version now.
