BRISTOL, Conn., and EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Jan. 20, 2015 â€“ ESPN and DIRECTV announced today that Longhorn Network (LHN), the 24/7 channel devoted to The University of Texas, will be available to fans within the state of Texas and nationwide beginning this Wednesday, Jan. 21. Carriage of the network is part of a larger agreement between DIRECTV and The Walt Disney Company.

Longhorn Network will be available to DIRECTV customers in Texas on channel 677 in the CHOICE package or above, and nationwide for customers who subscribe to the DIRECTV SPORTS PACK.  In addition, DIRECTV customers who receive LHN as part of their satellite service will soon be able to enjoy the network’s exclusive live events and content via WatchESPN on their computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices – at home or on the go. DIRECTV is expected to offer WatchESPN beginning in late February or early March and will be available on DIRECTV Everywhere shortly thereafter.

So it's not available outside of Texas unless you pay more for a package you don't need. I don't pay for the sports package because you don't get anything substantial in return for it. So I would have to pay about $20 for a channel I won't watch but once or twice a month.

Is the SEC channel available outside of SEC country? Yes.

Oops. Sorry. I have to pay $13.99 a month to see LHN but the SEC channel is free. Oh well, cheaper than a coke at the DKR concession stands....

It's included in my Sports Pack already. Had to do nothing or pay any more money to get it.

The answer is real easy - switch providers.  Unless you can only get Direct TV?

Ya, DirecTV is my only option where I am but I don't mind paying the $13.99 a month. I just don't think the "sports package" is worth $13.99 a month so I never had it. You get all the obscure sports channels (of which I would be interested in a climbing show but alas, no climbing shows) and ESPN Classic which still isn't available in HD. They don't air anything I can't see on the Ultimate plan without the sports package. In addition, I don't get the "where you live" thing. It's 2014, it doesn't matter where anyone lives anymore. Cell phones stopped charging long distance ages ago and my internet access is active wherever I go.

So whatever, I'll pay the 13.99 a month just for LHN but I don't think I'm getting a deal out if it. Still cheaper than a beer at DKR.... wait...

Quit yer bitchin' ya big puss.  Pay the money.
