The Contingency Plan?

He had to fire a assistant coach this season alone for paying players. He knew, just like he knew Richardson was paid off. A guy like Saban, who is so anal about everything, knows what is going on when comes to extra benefits. Also, the way he manages rosters is about the worst a coach can do. You wonder how good his teams would be if he didn't cut 5-10 guys every season to make room for other guys.

Interesting take. It has been said that Saban manages his roster just like an NFL teams does. Let me point this out if we are going to call unethical. The scholarships awarded are for a one year basis so, the arguement is why is this unethical?

Sounds to me that he is playing within the guidelines. Does the rule need to change? That is another topic altogether.

I was on the fence a month ago about Saban. But the more I hear from some peeps tied in with the program. Their are some that honestly think it's a done deal.
I just keep going back to if Saban really wanted to just get a raise and stay at bama, that could of happen months ago. I believe Saban wants Texas
Saban received raises in the Spring. Also, he got a raise in the Spring of '12. If he stays at Bama, he'll probably get a raise in the Spring of '14.

I don't know how true this is but, I have heard that if an underclassman passes you on the depth chart then Saban considers your scholarship to be in jeopardy?

It is controversial but wouldn't you have a similar scenario if you're on an academic scholarship?

The kids who sign with Bama know the deal. That is the beauty of it. You are motivated to continue to improve and not just enjoy the college life and check out. We have seen that a lot under Brown.

Bama is setting these kids up for real life. Perform at your job and bring value to your team, or get fired. Texas is currently running like our government, throwing people at problems instead of better systems and not having accountability top to bottom.

Thank you. I think schollies are reevaluated annually, so I don't exactly call that unethical. I would assume that the cuts are made based on performance, or lack thereof. Regarding the payment to players/improper benefits, I don't know for certain that this type of thing doesn't go on in just about every program in some shape or form.

McPhaul, just want to say thank you for consistently bringing the goods and providing a great product for Horn fans. Definitely looking forward to the next few weeks/months around here as things evolve. Keep up the good work and I hope that we do get Saban.

Brown/Dodds calling Saban unethical is like the pot callin' the kettle black.

It must be nice to be selective in what is ethical and what is not.

Neither have any room to talk. None. Both need to recognize the things they have allowed and turned a blind eye to but are ready to blow the whistle on others.

Dodds wouldn't do his job and said he would not fire anyone.... he had zero trouble cashing his pay check though...

I dunno who JS was referring too the other day when mentioned the biggest player there is was at an all time high confidence wise on saban but guessing it has to be someone like Rowling. Things are quiet from a national standpoint but seems like behind the scenes power players are supremely confident

Good post Waterboy, what Saban does with the kids in his program is demand accountability. It's how you create and maintain a high performing organization. As TheWaterboy points out, he's actually doing these kids a favor in terms of actually preparing them for success in life. The kids who are just there to live the lifestyle of a football player but aren't really interested in being football players (btw, we have had a roster littered with this type since 2010) get moved along in a Nick Saban program.

So we all have heard that the power brokers are all in on Saban and that there is not clear cut No.2 or even a No.2 at all at this time?
I have been told that is pretty much the case because the Selection Committee has not yet been assembled. Once the Mack Brown reassignment/retirement is announced the Selection Committee will be assembled. Not until then will we hear about serious contingency candidates.

With that said, it does not mean that the power brokers do not have a firm like IMG presently taking calls from agents across the country and vetting candidates. We are.

What I find is interesting is how darn sure some of the people involved are about landing Saban and others, very smart others by the way, just can't see it?

BTW, Dodds & Brown have done a very good job on convincing Powers that Saban is not a man of integrity. Is there any merit to that? I guess that depends on where your integrity line is drawn? We all know that Saban is the master of pushing the envelope and working in the gray area. However, none of his programs have been convicted of any major NCAA violations.

As you all are aware, I played my hand two weeks ago in the Hornsports Crossfire. Since then, I have been repeatedly asked, what makes you so damn confident when a lot could go wrong concerning the timing if Bama plays for the NMC?

Well I'm going to reiterate what it is that has me extremely optimistic and it is not all the housing rumors/news.

The word is; Rex Tillerson has already involved Saban in some very lucrative Oil & Gas deals but, the contingency is Saban has to be the HC at Texas.
This all sounds like it is a go.........I believe you!!!

The philosophical approach created by Mack and Dodds is the fundamental reason Texas football is currrently struggling. This is a competition. You do whatever it takes to win so long as it is within the major rules and not an issue of moral value.
Besides, Mack does many of the same things. He is just good at politics. In fact, I think Saban has had fewer off the field issues than Brown.

Politics and money play a roll here. Alabama doesn't care about the media or flushing the toilet. Texas avoids it at all costs.

It's not a Saban vs. Brown battle. It is a difference in approach at Texas and Alabama.

Same goes for Urban Meyer.in the SEC.

My brother-in-law is a consultant for Rex at Exxon. I should see if he knows anything.
The philosophical approach of Mack and DD is the same as that of UT and was created by none of them. It goes back to the inception of collegiate athletics - athletics as the front porch of the university. As such, it is

first and foremost a teaching vehicle and not a win-at-all-costs competition. Fans don't always (if ever) agree with this approach.

I wouldn't agree with the assertion that Bama doesn't care about the media. Saban has the Alabama media trained to ask, "how high," when ever he says, "Jump!"

Thank You for giving us a look!!

All that said, I still want Saban to coach at Texas. He'd change the culture and mindset overnight. Even if Saban is here for 3-5 years, before he retires, he should put Texas in position to be competitive for the next 15 years.

This is most likely Rowling, S Hicks, Tillerson or even J. Jamail?
