I messaged McPhaul and said I thought it would be a good idea to having a running list of the suggestions/targets for the next UT Head Coach. I'll keep a running list on this post and people can jump in and add the reasons why that person should be included.

Let's make this purely a "case for" argument and not a "case against" argument. If you see a name not on the list that should be, reply or message me and I will add them in.

I will take the replies and edit them into the text of the original post and we can keep a running list.

  1. Nick Saban
  2. David Shaw
  3. Pete Carroll
  4. Art Briles
    • Proven recruiter and player developer
    • Former Texas HS Coach and former president of THSCA
    • RG3, Terrance Williams, Josh Gordon, Seastrunk, Jason Smith, Danny Watkins, Nick Florence, Bryce Petty
    • Imagine the players he could recruit and develop with the name Texas behind him.

Case For - He did a good job at Wisconsin on a team that graduated a bunch of players from the year before.

Case Against - He is only one year removed from coaching Utah State, Has not had enough time to truly establish his identity of the WI program and is not ready to take the jump to Texas yet.

I think Swinney should be added to the list. He is a long shot, but definitely brings some of the credentials to the table TX is looking for.
