Texas vs USC in Mexico City?

I guess Patterson doesn't feel the Longhorns brand is strong enough in Mexico to just have a game against a random non-conference opponent but taking away the USC game is ridiculous. I want to see a game in the coliseum, not estadio Azteca

I think it SUCKS big time and look at it as Patterson shooting the finger at the fans. Finally we are getting another big time game in Austin and he is trying to take it away from the fans. This everything just to make more money is getting real old real fast. It is time for them to start thinking about the fans that have supported them through the good and bad times and not just worry about the almighty dollar. This is just totally disgusting!

Not a wise move by the new AD, IMO. What's the point of making the brand more visible in Mexico? Poor choice that could lead to short-term employment on the 40.

I am totally opposed. We do not need a brand in Mexico City. A home and home is far better.

I'm hoping this idea was just floated as a trial ballon and is quickly shot down. We get damn few buzz-worthy home games at DKR and losing one to Mexico so we can sell a bunch of Los Longhorns t-shirts does nothing for me.

Terrible idea and it reeks of the garbage the NFL keeps doing to "improve the brand." Like the NFL or Texas need more brand awareness. I have never understood the desire to get a bunch of Mexican Nationals rooting for an American Football team. Add in the expense of traveling to Mexico City, the risks involved, and removing a huge revenue generating weekend from the city of Austin and DKR, and you get a horrible idea that better not happen.

I think it would be great as a one off game or one of a 3 game series (home, home, neutral). Think of it as playing FSU in Mexico City instead of Rice or ULM at home.

Terrible idea. Not only takes away a potentially great game away from DKR, but our team will return with dysentery and have a poor game the following week. But seriously, do we really need brand recognition in Mexico? I know the name of the game is to generate as much money as possible to the program, but it should not be at the expense of the loyal fans who support the program. I have previously voiced my opinion on other threads regarding my dislike of the NFL branching out to London. How much money is enough? Do we really need Cincinnati Bengal fans in England? Are the soccer crazed fans going to replace their Manchester United jerseys with a sweet San Diego Chargers pullover?

All I care about is playing USC. If the only way we can get the deal done is to book it in Mexico City, I'll be looking for a hotel room the first day it's announced.

Moot point bc the home-home "deal" is already scheduled.

Count me as already there.

I know someone with an penthouse apartment overlooking Chapultapec Park.

The guy is an architect and the guest bedroom has this beautifully tiled shower with a long, large horizontal window at about chest height.

It's like you are showering in the rain forest. Greatest shower ever.

He went to UT as well.

Gonna be fun, I can't wait.

Completely opposed on so many fronts listed above and the security for the teams, their families is not a forgone conclusion. WHY do we need to improve our brand in Mexico, this is a college game, not the NFL
