*****Texas vs SHSU Baseball Sunday*****

Tremendous pitching from Cooper. To spin 3 straight breakers after Burgess smoked that triple in the B8th was impressive.
Cooper looks very good today. I was glad to see him stay in there for the 9th and not Thornhill.

Got to love Texags, the gift that keeps on giving. They called Texas baseball a dumpster fire at the beginning of the season, and A&M a legitimate world series contender.

A&M just got swept by Fresno State. I would never comment over there, but my god it gives me a good laugh to read Texags sometimes.

i like cooper better at closer than i like thornhill. no slam at nathan there, i just like cooper's demeanor on the mound and i'm not sure if thornhill has adjusted to the closer role. he still seems like he sort of pitches like he's starting the game.

i'm certainly no pitching expert, but he just seems more solid to me. can thornhill be a long relief guy?

wasted in long relief. if he does not close, he should go back to starter.

i'm ok with that too, but who does he replace?
beats me, pal. Schiraldi has been the weakest one thus far, but a friend in baseball tells me LS has tremendous potential. i'm just saying that a long reliever does little more than "hold 'em" and/or eat innings. Thornhill was too good for last year. he sure needs to change his approach, though, to close. that is IMO, of course.

Thornhill's best season at Texas was his freshmen year when he was a set-up guy, that pitched 1-2 innings on a couple of weekend days. He struggles as a starter when a team gets it's 3rd look at him, and he's not a closer.

my comment wasn't meant as a specific criticism of thornhill by any means. my knowledge of pitching is that i can tell a curve and change up from a fastball and slider.

it was more that i like cooper's pitching. he's tall and has a good fastball and a curve that breaks like crazy, plus he can throw strikes. not a lot to dislike there, especially because he's a freshman. i'd sure be tempted to keep giving him the ball late in games until he shows that he's not capable of closing out games. i also love travis duke. he was good last year and so far he's started out well this year too.

if i was coaching, those would be my first choices. but of course, i'm not coaching. :D

Just a little note here, since y'all are watching this thread; I'm not going to be able to call the game tomorrow night against Valpo. I'll be in AZ for work.
