The biggest issue hitting wise right now is we simply aren't healthy. That isn't to say we will be a great hitting team once we get healthy, but we will be substantially better. 

Don't forget we've already lost Rand (who was hitting .333 before his injury), Mathis (who is our best power hitter) and Joe Baker was out for a few games to start the year. 

That's 3 starters that have missed quite a few games. Missing Mathis and Rand right now is a big blow.

Just for the record, I hate slash. He had either Cantu or Barrera, I can't remember which, and hated it. But I love hit and run especially against people that are around the plate. Meaning I like it a ton more against Stanford and Cal than I do against Prairie View.

All that said, the old dog is using more tricks early this year, and that is a good thing.

Agreed. Hate the slash. Seems "softball-ish" Not to mention difficult as all get out to execute.

But you're correct, Augie is mixing things up offensively and I personally like that.
