Without getting too philosophical, these guys need a paradigm shift.

Stale doesn't come close to describing the way they are playing.

The head coach at TAMUCC is Scott Malone. I played for his dad Andy as a freshman and sophomore in high school. One of the winningest coaches in Texas High School baseball history.

Afford me a moment, if you will.  I don't do flat out commentary, but I am taking the opportunity to do so.  If you have a weak stomach, move along, because I'm just going to vent for a minute or two.

Augie post game: "We're taking 27 guys (to Kansas State,) I think, and we'll just have to see what team shows up."  "We failed in every aspect of the game tonight."

I'm about 99.99% sold on the fact that while Augie may be getting up there, I think this is on the players.  Augie hasn't set foot in a batters box in years.  He hasn't fielded grounders in the IF in about as long.  Augie can coach with the best of them.  He isn't waving at balls a foot off the plate.  He's not misreading where a ball is fielded and continuing to run.  He's not missing pop flies nor booting grounders and he's not swinging the bat with all arms, (no lower body,) against pitchers that while serviceable, are not in the upper echelon of D1 Baseball.

Understand this, from a baseball perspective, the players have to produce.

At some point, you as a player have to make the routine plays, hit balls further than the base lines and use your head when running the bases.  You have to be baseball smart.  You have to stop thinking at the plate and swing the bat like you know how.  This game is 90+% mental.  You go out there with your head right, confident in your abilities, then you will succeed most of the time.

What I see is a lack of confidence and lack of pride in their abilities and game.  It is apparent in the body language and the quality of play.

I don't want to start calling out specific players.  I think that's counterproductive.  What I will say is that this is a team game, and if the guys on the diamond can't get it done, they need to sit for a game or three and think about it, regardless of seniority, name, talent level or history.

I feel fairly certain that tonight's post-game locker room speech will be YouTube worthy if anyone was allowed to film it.  This team needs to have a fire lit under them, and now.  At this point, it's not about the post-season.  At this point it's about getting tired of losing.  Until that happens, all bets are off.

Rant over.  Apologies to those that may see it differently.

Hook Em!

Thanks for the memories Augie. Enjoy retirement.
While this is a tongue-in-cheek statement, filled with sarcasm, I think anyone here thinks we can trot out a different coaching staff tomorrow and see anything different out of this team is kidding themselves.  You could put a MLB manager in place and until the team decides that it hates losing and being the butt of jokes, the story will be the same.

Call it small ball.  Call it big park.  Call it whatever, but the bottom line is, teams that don't take pride in what they're doing are only going through the motions.

I tend to agree with you but maybe they have checked out due to not having the respect or urgency/excitement playing for Augie. We saw the same thing at the end of the Mack era, and I could list many more. I know players need to have self drive and want to win for themselves/pride but as we know in team sports it also takes a coach to mold these qualities and many times the team takes on the personality of the coach and right now our personality sucks.

Augie is in the Hall of Fame for the most wins in college ball. So if he gets credit for the wins, he should get credit for the losses too.

I know Augie is a much older man than his team.  No question about it. And for that reason, we have TNik, Skip, Russ and Loy to bridge that gap.  All those guys have fire in their bellies and are competitors.  I think it's something else.

But you are correct, our personality is ugly.  When you don't look good and you have a bad personality, well, you're basically alone at the bar.
