***Texas @ UCLA Official Game 3 Thread***

I'm not so sure it's a recruiting issue. Right now I don't have the definitive answers. Something is wrong. We entered the season with the question mark being offense.

We racked up 30 hits this weekend.

Defense and pitching, which were supposed to be our strength, have been the things that have stung us lately.
Yeah, I don't think it's a recruiting issue at all.

There's a lot of talent on the team (granted young talent). I think the team has just become stale with Augie. It's not even necessarily a coaching thing, just need some new juice in the program.

I actually think we have a ton of young talent. Which is probably why we are struggling to a degree, so much youth. But this is also why it would be a good time to make a coaching transition.

If all the talent we have is young ,why don't we have junior and senior talent?

Our talent level is not what you guys think it is.

It's not even really about the JRs and SRs having talent, we just don't have many JRs and SRs.

We only have 8 JRs and SRs combined on the roster (and 1 is James Barton a bullpen catcher).

I'm not sure why that's the case. Maybe we've lost more JRs to the draft in recent years than I expected. Or maybe this is just a rebuilding type year roster wise.

The issue isn't that the JRs/SRs aren't talented, it's that like 80% of our roster is underclassmen.

Well then we've been rebuilding too damn long.

If we were recruiting good talent it would've been done by now.

Yeah, Augie probably underachieved more last year vs this year.

This roster isn't really built to win this year the more I look at it. The roster was primed for a run last year in comparison to this year.

With that said, Augie had the team in the national semis two years ago. I agree that we probably need a change, but sometimes our views are a little distorted. Call it luck, hot pitching, or whatever but Augie had the team a couple outs away from being in the national title series less than 2 years ago. While he might be underachieving by our standards, to make the national semis is far from rebuilding.

I guess what I'm getting at is we probably need a change, but the idea Augie has been sitting on his butt is far from true.

In his last 2 years of "underachieving" he's made the national semis, 2 tournament appearances and won a big 12 tourney title.

Ok...all the usual disclaimers aside (we haven't even started conference, we've had injuries etc) the program is stale as hell.

We haven't contended for the Big 12 since '11. We're never in the hunt to host a regional. One year of the last 4(and it was special) have we one a single NCAA tourney game.

If this bunch turns it around, I'll eat crow til the cows come home (and then I'll eat cow) but this 7-9 start is more the rule than the exception.

All I know for certain is that my play-by-play is at Omaha levels and has never been better.

In the words of my good friend JimsTexas, "No brag, just fact my friends. Y'all keep those horns up and Y'all have a blessed week!"

Teddy Garland and Harry Doyle would be incredibly proud. I hope you didn't year your rotator cuff patting yourself on the back there big boy, it's a long season you just got to relax and concentrate. ;-)

I stretched my shoulder properly beforehand. ;)

Anyway, ya have to take the opportunity when it's presented.

I was on the road yesterday and actually listened to the UCLA broadcast to get an opponents perspective.  I will admit I'm surprised that UT didn't win this series as the Bruins were missing their Friday night starter and had a number of other contributors out.  I don't think youth is an excuse as when Kody Clemens was at AB in the bottom of the 9th, the UCLA guys were also noting that the Bruins also had a freshman on the mound pitching to a RS freshman at catcher.

UCLA broadcast team were complimentary of UT and mentioned that they expected the Horns to make the post season based on what they saw over the weekend.  The youth of the bullpen has hurt the Horns as Skip really needs to make some tough decisions as the starters have been good enough to warrant a top 25 ranking.  I was really suprised Kingham wasnt used as long relief Friday night when Johnston exited as it would seem he has been stretched out and would relish the role, but was only used for 1 inning, splitting hairs I suppose.

Love the change with Jones hitting leadoff as I believe he has a bright future.  Cantu is lost at the plate right now as you need more of a competitve at bat with the game on the line late Sunday than he provided.
