Texas to the Big 10????

I like many others here prefer the ACC.

I would think that the B10 would be behind the ACC & The PAC in conferences we would join?

To me the logistics don't make much sense. Can UT afford to travel to play conference games in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, ect..? Yes, but it seems you lose some favor-ability with parents, especially those who can't afford to travel, by playing half of your games in states that don't neighbor ours. I understand that this might be an inevitable fact of realignment with the super conferences and what-not in the future but I don't know that right now it makes sense. Inviting FSU, Clemson, Miami, hell even ND (forgive me) to join our league makes more sense than us joining a league that is not geographically neighboring.

The ACC now has a GOR so they can't come anymore but a few months ago Fsu, the U and Clemson would have come and a certain Dodds stopped it bc of his man love for ND. If somehow there is a loophole in GOR then maybe? Doesn't look good right now, maybe in 10-12 yrs.

Also, I think it makes more sense for a merge of Big12/ACC or Texas & friends to Acc. Ku wants to be in big10 and Kst/ISU arnt a desire for any conference and may end up in PAC bc they have nowhere else to expand.

Keep in mind that any realignment would include all sports, not just the profitable football team. So instead of driving to Waco our women's tennis team would have to fly to Ann Arbor for a match. This cuts into our bottom line as a business unit. The increased media and recruiting markets would be helpful but I don't think they offset the negatives here.

Agreed, I was just using them as an example, I know there are more recent and plausible examples - I just couldn't think of any with my two year old in my ear...

In the end I view Texas as a star with enough gravitational pull to exert our will on the realignment issue in some sort of geographically regional agreement. Possibly, B12/ACC merger (most attractive to me across the athletic spectrum) or some other yet unproposed idea.

I've yet to see a realignment story reported by a WVU insider that has even come close to fruition for the last two years. Nothing reported by anyone related to WVU has been accurate. Has anyone ever asked how those rednecks have all this realignment stuff but no one in Texas, Big 10 region or the rest of the country knows anything about it?

Deloss Dodds, has always had a firm grasp upon the future... in reference to UT. He has too..it's his job. And for quite a few years until very recently....he has been the very best at it....

The future belongs to the larger CFB networks....I know this, and you know this. I personally think that Texas shall snag Baylor as it's traveling companion. Texas cannot snag OU, because OU is bound by their state legislature to not make a move...unless OSU accompanies them....

First, Dodd doesnt have any grasp on the future. If he did he could have secured the future of the big 12 by adding Fsu, Miami and Clemson, then maybe Louisville and more. But his blind love for ND has hurt the Big 12 and Texas. If and when the Big 12 falls apart, it will clearly be bc of the shit Dodds did/did not do. It may take 10-12 years when the GOR expires but Dodds has made the big 12 weak and in a position when it may have to add schools like UCF and Cincy compared to the ones mentioned above. The irony is that ND may have become a partial member(though Big12 might have not accepted that) of the Big 12 bc the Acc would have been crap/not existed.

Second, the future very way seems to belong to larger conferences. The Big10 will only accept schools that are part of the AAU, Texas is, Ou, BU, TT, Ok st are not. This would leave Texas on an island anywhere it would go, unless it joins a conference it can take some friends.

The only thing Dodds has a grasp on is $$ and even then, not a long term grasp bc of the position he will have put UT in in 12 years. Texas will always be fine bc we are lucky to be we are but Deloss single handedly will have put Texas in a less than great position.

The Big? Why not the ACC or Pac-12?

I ask the same question. Especially as a Notre Dame fan, I would love to see Texas in the ACC. I would love to play Texas as a conference foe in basketball and baseball. I think Texas needs to be the one school in the southwest with a major lacrosse program, and ACC membership will set that up perfectly. And more than all, I would love for Texas to be an ACC foe in football whenever the day comes when we make the final move.

Texas doesn't give a crap about anyone, everyone knows this! However, the state of Texas cares about basic economics and tax revenues from games.

Hypothetically speaking of course;

Let's go over Texas' scheduling first

Texas leaves to the Big 10 with no one else and the big 10 is now at 16 teams.

This means the state will potentially force Texas to continue it's RRR and possibly one game a year alternating between TTech and Baylor. Everyone knows the A&M and Texas rivalry is coming back, which means Texas can potentially have 3 OOC games out of the big 10, that are not going to be cupcake teams!

Texas would be added to the West portion of the big ten, formally known as the Big 10 legends

-Illinois

-Iowa

-Minnesota

-Nebraska

-Northwestern

-Purdue

-Wisconsin

-Texas

Which means Texas' closest away game would be Nebraska, 836 miles away!

Their farthest game will be Minnesota 1,160 miles away.

- Ask WVU how that travel time has been treating them.

-Also those big 10 teams aren't notorious for traveling other than Nebraska and maybe Iowa.

Second thing to bring up is basic state economics and tax revenue.

If Texas says Cya big 12, that leaves TTech, TCU, and Baylor all out looking for new conferences. Which conferences can they join you may ask, well they will need to join a conference that travels well with their teams.

Pac 12- No, they do not travel well at all. Trust me I lived in Pac - 12 country.

SEC - Yes, but good luck!

Big 10- Only adding Texas with no package deal.

ACC - Kinda, only a handful of teams travel for football, your BBall arenas will be packed though.

MWC - LOL are you serious?

AAC - Lets hope they don't go here.

A&M was allowed to go to the SEC mainly because their fans travel very well and are relatively close! Which brings in tons of revenue for the state (A&M and Alabama).

To sum it up, the State capital of Texas (2 blocks away from the campus) would never allow Texas to leave without making sure their little brothers, Baylor, TTech, and TCU, all have a home.Football is a good portion of Tax revenue for the state of Texas.

jmo, but i wouldn't think this would be much of a factor. in an 8 game conference schedule, 4 would be at texas. in this scenario, ou is now an out-of-conferecne game, so that's 5. of the remaining 4 non-conf games, play 2 at home, one in houston or jerry-world and one 'destination' road trip.
