Texas to the Big 10????

Texas is playing the Big12 for fools. Oliver Luck learned yesterday that UT had entered a non-disclosure agreement with the Big10 a few months back and have been hammering out details for UT to join the Big10 with another school(GT-according to what Luck was told) to make 16. The LHN, which was once considered the biggest hurdle to overcome, would remain UT's and Espn's but BTN would also get UT content-just not as much as the other 15. UT would take a smaller share of BTN revenues(which will grow astronomically after adding GA and TX) than the other members but still stands to make over $50 million per year for all tv money(non-postseason ) according to projections from the B10. That's all the info I have been able to obtain in regards to this matter and what I have now was obtained from eavesdropping on my sources part. Luck seemed shocked and surprised at this news but it doesn't seem to have deterred him from taking the job even though during his interview he pitched a 12 team B12 with 8 games and a CCG. I won't pretend to understand how the big10 plans on skirting the GOR but everything I've been hearing is hinting that the answer is in the details of what the networks are actually paying for-yes, they are TV rights to a university's athletic games-but those games have a specific name and description. Failing that, the B10 has stores of cash to pay for a broken GOR or 2 if need be. Will UT move to the Big10 and what does that mean for WVU and the rest of B12? Before anyone jumps off a bridge keep this in mind: last year the Big10 had as many as 8 of those non-disclosure agreements in place with various schools and only 2 came to fruition. But if UT were to bolt the B12...well, that changes everything.

Historical prestige would be why the B1G is my first choice followed by the ACC because of baseball and basketball. PAC12 not so much because of the time zone......heck I am just an ole fart who goes to bed by 10. I really miss the OU game being a non-conference game and this might make that happen.

thats some surprising news.

I too would rather the Acc bc i feel they are just as good academically(never sure why that really mattered, this is a sports thing) and we get the southeast which is so much better for population and recruiting and sports. Acc, with Syracuse and BC also gets the northeast. Most important we get to bring close friends and essentially have half the conference be a Acc west.

Michigan, tOsu, Psu Wisconsin would be nice games but the $$ we would make in the new Acc would have to be as much as Big10 and Sec. I would rather be with Fsu, Miami, Clemson, UNC, VT, GT and bring Ou, BU, TT, OkSt.

What I wish we could do...

Kick out WSU and Oregon State from the Pac12 and move Texas, Tech, OU, OkSt to Pac14. I would love to have regular series with the 2 Arizona schools and mix in trips to LA and Bay Area. But 2 teams in WA and OR would be difficult.

For now, I'd like things to calm down. Let's have some equilibrium for a while.

heck I am just an ole fart who goes to bed by 10.
I can appreciate that situation.

I wouldnt mind OU being an OOC game again either. Just adds to the prestige.

If there's a way to circumvent the Big 12's GOR there's gotta be a way to get around the ACC's. Why not just cherry pick the ACC and build a stronger, more competitive Big 12? We'll take the programs with strong football/all-around programs and let the ACC be what NC and Duke want it to be...a basketball conference that happens to play football. I'd love to see a Big 12 with FSU, VT, Clemson, Miami, Louisville (before they ever get started in the ACC) and even ND once they figure out that the ACC's a dead end for football. It'd get us into Florida and South Carolina and would add great football and basketball programs, academics and plenty of tv sets.

Call me skeptical. Can't see OU and Texas ever parting ways. Wouldn't mind, though I have some concerns about the potential impact on baseball. Big 10 baseball is abysmal! Problem with the current make up of the big 12 is its television footprint. With the exception of state of Texas, which thanks to Aggie jumping ship is now split, it is very weak. A move to Big10, ACC, or Pac12 would definitely strengthen that.

It's nonsense.

Why would UT leave its sweetheart deal to join a Rust Belt league that's losing population, TV viewers and influence? What match-ups are compelling? Ohio State, Michigan and maybe Nebraska? Everything else about it sucks. The move would be terribly inconvenient for our traveling fans, too.

Last year, the B1G Network paid each member $8.2MM per team. UT already earns over $11MM annually for LHN. That number grows with addition of Time Warner Cable and a satellite carrier deal. Eventually, it will exceed the $15MM per year that sent aggie running for the SEC.

IF The University were to move it would be with partner OU to the Pac-12. Hell, the ACC is more desirable too.

There is no way this is true. First, Luck wouldn't know that information and if he did (which he doesn't) he wouldn't be sharing it. Second, UT is not leaving all the other Texas/Oklahoma schools behind to travel crazy distances for every away game in all sports. None of what was posted makes sense.

I'm using my first post to declare this complete BS. There's no way we are leaving the Big 12 with the GoR and we certainly aren't joining another conference without OU and a couple of Texas teams.

I don't want any part of the Big 10. I'd just as soon watch some damn paint dry.

Good points.

I don't think we leave Ou or Bu/TT.

They can challenge GOR but odds are not in the favor.

Why join the rust belt? ACC gives u everything if u want another conference.

Parothed, either some teams from B12 to ACC OR ACC to B12. Get the 16/20 best and merge leagues. Hard with GOR but whenever that's runs out(10/12 yrs) then I think it makes sense to have Tx, Ou, Bu, TT, OKSt join Fsu, Unc, Clemson, GT, UVA, Duke, Miami, VT, Etc. great schools for all sports, in so many great TV markets and recruiting areas.

Does Dodds have anything to do within this?

Academics is the only positive of Big10, compared to the other 4 conferences. Even that doesn't out weigh all the other positives
