Big get for Texas. Tight end depth is needed and Aucoin is a solid in line tight end who can do it all. We reported in Burnt Ends Texas felt really good about their chances.

He was quoted that people say that he reminds them of Mike Ditka. That's fine with me.

That  comparison sits well with me...welcome to "The Forty" Peyton. Ditka was a mean SOB with good hands.

Were I a TE, I would be flattered by that comparison. GREAT NEWS!

Scale of 1 to 10 receiving?

Scale of 1 to 10 blocking?

What do we have here guys?

Are we now cheering for Pettigrew to stick with LSU so the Tigers don't come after Aucoin?

Jeff Traylor already making a difference on the recruiting trail. He's been working his butt off and constantly updating Charlie Strong. Charlie even quipped about him during Big 12 Media Days something like (and I'm paraphrasing here) "He's trying to remind everyday he's working hard. I sometimes need to tell him that he's calling too much." ...I need to take another listen to that 1.5 hour tape of Charlie Strong's breakout session at Big 12 MD...

Anyways what Texas really needs to do now is go after a pass catching TE since we lost Jack Stoll to Nebraska (wasn't very high on the kid anyways... don't know if that's b/c he goes to my ex-gf's HS or because all I saw he catch were flat routes). Peyton "Gold Coin" Aucoin is a very good blocker. He will straight up beat the crap out of whoever is lined up across from him, but he is NOT a down field pass catching threat by any means.

This is awesome for Texas b/c Shawn Watson loves to use the TE and we are thin at the position. We needed him bad. UT wasn't playing any games with this guy.

Great pick up. Hopefully LSU doesn't come knocking on his door.

Bo Scaife --  6'3"  250  -- from neighboring state to the northwest

Peyton Aucoin -- 6'5" 255 -- from neighboring state to the east

TE is the most under-valued position in college football, IMO. In the Texas win over USC for the NC in Jan. 2006,

David Thomas proved how important that position is. He made ten catches in that game to keep drives going

that would lead to a NC for UT. Clutch receptions in a game for the NC...doesn't get bigger than that. We need

another great TE...I hope Peyton Aucoin is the answer!

On his commitment to Texas Aucoin tells me "feels great!"  He's on the road headed back home to NOLA right now.

Think Swaim and you'll have a pretty good understanding of what kind of player "Gold Coin" is and will be

Are we now cheering for Pettigrew to stick with LSU so the Tigers don't come after Aucoin?
Absolutely not. We want Pettigrew, too, and he actually likes us. Pettigrew is a true receiver. Give them both to Traylor and Norvell for 2 years and the NCAA will have to ban them as unfair competition.

â€I love what Charlie Strong is doing with the Texas program,†Pettigrew said. “He's definitely leading them to a national championship in the near future. He's a great coach and the players are buying into his system more and more as the days pass.†- Jamal Pettigrew (June 2, 2015) [citation]

I get it that Pettigrew & Aucoin are different types of players. My question was about LSU's lack of interest in Aucoin. If the Tigers lose Pettigrew, it's possible that Aucoin's in-state school might start showing him interest.

New Texas tight end coach Jeff Traylor landed his first win at the position with the commitment of 2016 New Orleans (LA) Brother Martin tight end Peyton Aucoin. Texas offered Aucoin early in the spring and made him a priority at a position where the Longhorns are mired in bad luck.

Aucoin chose Texas over offers from Florida, Arizona State, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Missouri among others. The Brother Martin star is the first tight end commitment of the class but the coaching staff is recruiting like they’d prefer to take two TE’s, if possible.

Texas targeted two types of players at the tight end position in the 2016 class – Aucoin was the primary target for a traditional “in-line” tight end on the UT board. 2015 signee Devonaire Clarington plays split out and is a different mold than Aucoin. Even if Clarington qualifies, the depth at tight end is lacking in numbers and versatility. Aucoin gives Texas a physically developed body that can contribute at the position quickly.

After visiting both Florida and Texas during the home stretch of his recruitment, Aucoin narrowed his choices to those two schools. The New Orleans native returned to Austin this past week, and that sealed the deal for the Longhorns.

“The whole day I was thinking about it,” Aucoin said about his decision process post-visit. After a great trip to the 40 Acres, Aucoin called the coaches once he got back home, “Coach Strong and coach Traylor were real excited, and they saw it coming.”

In this day and age recruits tend to commit and then immediately talk about evaluating options and taking other visits, but that won’t be the case with Aucoin, “I’m committed to Texas 100 percent and it feels great to be done.”

Film Analysis:

Aucoin has a physically developed frame at 6’5, 255 pounds, and already looks college ready. A tenacious run blocker from the line or H-back position, Aucoin locks on to his opponent and drives him all the way to the whistle. From a blocking perspective, Aucoin is technically sound with great flexibilityand strength.

Although he is more experienced as a blocker, Aucoin also shows solid skills as a pass catcher. His quickness off the line and adequate speed for the position make Aucoin a threat down the field. His superior size and hands combined with his understanding of positioning and body control help him make catches around and over defenders.

Aucoin is raw as a route runner and is utilized much more in run blocking than the pass game. In his newest player, Coach Traylor gets all the athletic tools and frame needed to develop as a weapon.

Final Verdict:

Although he appears to be a bit more gifted as a natural pass catcher, Aucoin will remind fans of former Texas tight end Geoff Swaim, who the Cowboys drafted in the 7th round. With his size and ability, Aucoin projects as a player that could contribute early in college.

Depending on his development as a receiver, Aucoin’s ceiling could certainly rise. As it is now, Aucoin is a prospect that could play at an all conference level and end up as a mid to late round NFL draft pick.
