Has Texas ever had a pitching rotation as dominant as this year?

3 weekend starters-

Parker French-1.62 ERA

Dillon Peters-1.79 ERA

Nathan Thornhill-1.01 ERA

Mid week starter-

Lukas Schiraldi-2.45 ERA ( this is really distorted too because he had one bad game where he gave up quite a few runs)

Bullpen-

Travis Duke-0 ERA

John Curtiss-0 ERA

Morgan Cooper-2.5 ERA

Blake Goins-2.8 ERA

TY Culbreth-2.46 ERA

Jon Malmin-0 ERA

Ty Marlow-0 ERA

Chad Hollingsworth-1.35 ERA

Josh Sawyer-7.95 ERA (Sawyer has only seen 5 innings and has been the only pitcher that's really struggled).

I knew our pitching staff was good, but not this good.

Another item you may not be aware of; we are 20-6; that is our best start since 2005, when we were 22-4 through 26 games.

Think about that for a minute.

If I recall Texas was swept in their first Big 12 series that year too against Baylor. Why you can't judge a season off one series.

Low ERAs sometimes are, in part, because of bad defense. How many unearned runs have there been?

Good question. Other then the first week and a half of ball though our defense has been outstanding. Defense and pitching isn't a problem. I would assume the unearned runs number is pretty low in comparison with the norm, but that's just a guess.

nice jinx thread, bomber. you didnt help either, joey
I'll reverse jinx it. We suck, Augie sucks, our bats are atrocious, our pitchers can't throw strikes, fire Augie, we have too many freshman to win anything, and so on. We are good now.

15 unearned runs.

48 earned runs.

Texas is currently ranked 5th in ERA in D1.

Until you come to the table with your "Big News," I don't want to hear another 'peep' out of you. :P

We will get a good idea of how good the pitching rotation is this weekend. Tech has some bats.

The 1975 national champs (56-6) had a complete season (including playoffs) ERA of 1.92, compared to this team's current 1.89.

The three starters and main reliever had records and ERAs of:

Jim Gideon 17-0 1.80

Richard Wortham 15-1 1.95

Martin Flores 10-1 1.43

Terry Ray 7-0 1.84

The 1970 team that finished third at the CWS (39-8) had a team ERA of 1.88. The main pitchers had records and ERA of:

Burt Hooton 12-1 1.47

James Street 8-2 1.44

Mike Beard 7-0 3.16

Larry Hardy 7-3 1.36

Walt Rothe 3-1 1.76

Nati Salazar 2-0 1.86

The other interesting thing about our starting pitchers. They really don't have "nasty" stuff and they really don't throw super hard. Schiraldi probably has the best stuff out of the 4 starters IMO. It really tells you that there's more to pitching. If you can locate strikes and work the zone in different locations, you can be successful.

The arms in both '75 and '70 were better than the current staff, IMO . My choice of them all is '70.

Who else was on the staff with Clemens and Schiraldi? Guess I'll go look it up.

The '83 staff was loaded. Mike Capel was 13-1 with 2.98 ERA as third starter and Kirk Killingsworth was closer. Steve LaBay did double duty that year. He threw a four hit shut-out against Miss State to get us to regional final. That team led the nation in ERA that year.

I wasn't alive during the Clemens and Schiraldi era, but would be difficult to top that rotation.

thanks. hopefully you caught it in time.
